Chewing your finger nails isn't really a life threatening problem. But if you want to stop then learn self control.

You can buy some stuff (sorry but am not sure what it is called) to put on your nails and it tastes disgusting.

how far do you chew, you being serious yeh? because I seen a few mates destroy fingers by chewing. do you do it as the same way as cutters? its a way for you to pain yourself and disguise it as a normal thing becase lots of people bite nails? (also the constant pain like i like burns because everytime you use your handsyour nails hurt when pressure is applied right?)
well tips on how to stop, first thing is first. Temporary solutions, have you tried elastic bands although this is kinda like non cutting so im not sure yet if you feel the same way. but if u can get a temporary solution going, you can work on the factors WHY you do it.
Once you figure out why you do it, you can address the issues, I know it sucks and teenage angst just says "I wana do it so let me do it" and i understand but seriously SH isnt a good thing, your destroying your hands and they are highly visible, although you might not care what people see, you will come down with confidence and social issues.
Try seeking help with a good friend, entrust yourself to a trustworthy person, tell them that its a problem for you and you want someone who you can confde with when things get tough and talk stuff out because theres nothing better than someone agreeing with problems you have, and understanding.

I'm not doing for like fun or anything. It's like therapy. Bad therapy. I do it when I'm nervous.

so you find what relief in doing it an when do you usually do it? in situations your embarressed? or do you do it when your a little shy?
Thats ok, confidence is a major sucker. What things make your confidence drop?

Touché maverick?
@ Foof1
Well I am sure that your confidence is very low when your around these people? Are they avoidable? Do you have a safe haven? (A group of friends you can lose yourself in and just have a bunch of fun with? A different area to hang around?)
What kinda of things have they done? Bullies? Parents? Teachers?

Then please don't make it an option.Sorry but not going to happen. There are appropriate uses for large font in limited cases but yours wasn't one of them. If you're unsure of when it would be appropriate, drop me a PM or email so this thread doesn't get more off-topic.

I don't think this qualifies as self harm
but it's annoying habit.
some people have found bitter things help, it doens't for me, as i'm a sanitizer freak an still do. Maybe you can try it =/
Also, just stop, if you catch yourself biting your nails, take your hands out of your mouth (big duh, but people don't notice)

It is harming ones self. Though in our society, we think of self harm as a form of personal therapy. But I suppose it IS self harm...

Put some nail polish remover on your nails. The taste lasts there a while and then any time it gets to your mouth it tastes horrible! Also if it gets on you lips or anything it stays there for awhile so maybe it'll keep you fingers from your face altogether.
