Recently, I have noticed that only some people have their age, and nobody has their gender shown on threads. I think that it should be shown so that we will be able to help them better.

Usually in the threads requesting help they state their age. Some people dont want their age avaliabe to everyone.

I looked for a thread like this in suggestions i saw a while ago, but i couldn't find it.
But, someone [can't remember who] said everyone has a right to their privacy, and I agree.
Some people don't want everything about them displayed on the internet, so they should have the choice not to.

I personally believe that we should be able to see everyone's gender but I am not sure that we can. The admins are against it now...I think. Age shouldn't be required though and plus the Senior staff members can see them anytime.

lol!

Age i think can be private, it's not a HUGE deal

but i think gender should be public(on the min stat thing). it's a pain in the bottom having to click the profile if you're not sure
Kiros, wasn't it up there when i joined? along with biography...

Yep, it was there. I was just trying to develop a plugin for it rather than having to modify the templates (and then remodify the templates after each upgrade).

I think that's a lost project due to problematic code, so I'll just go ahead and modify the postbit and memberlist templates sometime today. Sorry about the wait.

It does help if we had gender shown.
It's not like people wouldn't want everyone to know.

how is gender 'personal info'

and, you can choose "undecitent" for gender..

Well the term "personal information" means information that has to do with the person. Many things are personal, including age, gender, name, orientation, occupation, and even shoe size. If it has to do with the person, then it's personal.

We only ask users to provide date of birth to verify their age, however, each user has the option to hide this information to the public. I don't really care about it, so I have just about everything listed - even the town that I live in. It's not a big deal to me, but to some people it is, so there are options available.

Anyway, I'm going to wrap this up. The age is displayed in each of the member's posts if the member has it set to be public ("show age" in the options). The gender should be displayed for those that have a gender set (not "undisclosed"). It currently doesn't because the postbit templates have to sometimes be reverted for a vBulletin upgrade. But I will work on it later today to make sure it displays properly.

I believe this addresses everything.

People don't have to show their age and gender. We all have rights to privacy. But, if you're asking a question in the Dating or Puberty forums then we should know your age or else we can't help.

We can help without knowing their age. It just helps sometimes.
