in life relationships between yourself and other people is very important. whether its between yourself and your family, friends or a special someone, relationships are important all the same. so i've decided to write something based on some stuff i've heard in church (with no religious stuff) to try and make us better people and make our relationships in our lives better, with the following 3 points:

1) Selfishness destroys relationships, but Selflessness builds them up.
in life we can be very selfish people and this can show to the people we love and the people who love us. sometimes we can be selfish and not even know it. how many times have done something with a friend, and then when something goes wrong, leave them to pick up the pieces? but if you can focus on being more selflessness in our relationships and focus more on those people rather then ourselves, it will make ou relationships stronger, and it will make you feel better as a person because you are doing good by your loved ones.

2) Pride destroys relationships, but Humility builds them up.
sometimes its a good thing to have pride in things. but sometimes when that pride goes too far, we end up having a bigger ego then we should and might not even notice it. in relationships, having humility and being humble and thoughtful builds up relationships. who wants to hear from someone continuously about their achievements? its all good to share your achievements and be congratulated on them, but when it goes with a big ego, thats not a good thing. humility on the other hand is a much better approach to take. being modest about your achievements and other aspects of your life you are proud of isn't all bad, but if its evened out with a good level of humility, it makes your relationships stronger in the long run.

3) Resentment destroys relationships, but Forgiveness builds them up.
how often have you been in a situation where you have a fight with a friend or family member and you end up stewing over it and it consumes your mind? well the skill of being open hearted and to forgive people is really important. i haven't got it down as good as i would like and i still have strong resentment against people who have hurt me, but that doesn't mean that i shouldn't put the hurt aside and forgive those people. forgiveness is really important for us to be able to move on too. when something bad happens, frustration can get the better of us and then the resentment kicks in. but maybe what we should aim to do is not focus on the resentment, but focus on how you can forgive that person who hurt you.

hopefully these words can encourage you to make yourself a better friend, family member or bf/gf/partner as the case may be. i got a lot out of this and i hope you do too. :)

This is all quite true.
My grandad told me that there are 4 pillars of relationships. Trust, sexuality, compassion and love. The theory is that without any one of these a relationship will be unsatisfying and/or fail.
