Hey, I'm 13, 5'9" and about 205 lbs. The truth is i dont look as heavy as i am. I exercise daily. I don't eat too horribly, and i'm quite sure my metabolism is extremely slow.

I guess i'm asking, is there a such thing as big boned, cause I dont look 205... i look about 160-170... How could this be.

AND Does anyone have some good diets i could try that worked for them?

The best diet is to just cut out snacks (especially on chips, and fried goods).
Eating a regular meal 3 times a day, and exercising regularly, AND probably still growing should help you look thinner.
And yes, I do believe there is such thing as 'big boned'. I'm not sure if it's scientific, but I do know that you can be heavier than you look (sometimes people are compactly built, sometimes people are really muscular [muscle weighs a lot], and some people just look lighter than they are).

I don't know if the original poster is still watching this thread, but I've heard Green Tea helps increase the speed of your metabolism.

Well, you are pretty tall for your age so the weight is probably spread out on your body, so that's probably why it doesn't show.

Well first you are supposed to eat 6-8 small meals a day but our modern society doesn't really allow for that.
I think that in your case if you really want to fight off those pounds you need to do exercises that sheds the pounds instead of toning them. For instance, jogging a few miles a day. That is also good for your heart. You can also do more reps of smaller weights to reduce the fat in specific areas. Also, I have a friend who started drinking all water and no pop. Lots of water. Like 10 bottles every day and she lost 20 pounds in just a few months. So that is a good way too and it cleanses you :D

Good luck!

You are definitely tall for your age which is something that works in your favor. The best, objective way to tell if you are overweight or not is to make an appointment with your doctor to see if you are the ideal size for someone of your age. You can also go down to your school nurse as he/she is also a good resource if seeing a doctor is somewhat hard. While I am not a huge fan of Body Mass Indexes (BMI), you can visit the following link to see where you fall on the scale: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

Basically, eating right is the first step to getting to the ideal weight. You might want to get out www.mypyramid.gov to get some good eating tips. Physical activity year round is a critical thing that you need to do to ensure that you work off any excess pounds and keep yourself in shape. Always keep yourself active and don't let yourself vegetate for extended periods of time as that can only hurt your overall weight situation. Getting involved with a sports team through school or your park district is another good way to keep active. Do your best to stay away from junk foods like fast food and things along those lines, and eating in reasonable portions is the key to having a healthy lifestyle.

In light of your being overweight, then you have some hard work ahead of you to get yourself trim. Definitely follow the advice above as you can trim down pretty fast especially with your being 13. You might just have slow metabolism which is something you will have to complement by a well balanced diet and physical activity in moderation. If you work hard at controlling your weight, then you will definitely have good results within a couple of months.

There is such thing as heavy-boned because I know a girl who is 140 lbs but she is pretty skinny. "Heavy-boned" doesn't neccessarly mean big built by the way, it just means that your bones are quite thick if you get what I mean. (I'm heavy-boned because the surface of my skin is really close to my hip bone, but I'm not that thin or petite).

Oh and most men who look around 170-180 lbs are quite muscly and their BMI's always tell them that they're overweight.

Yeah, BMIs don't take muscles into account. Muscles weigh a lot more than fat for their size and that screws the whole measurement for anyone muscular. For example, my BMI says that I'm obese and could stand to lose about 60 pounds. My doctor measured my actual body fat and said that I'm overweight and could stand to lose about 35 pounds - quite a difference. The unfortunate thing is that my muscles are all hidden under a layer of fat, so it all looks like fat (but still less fat than my weight would indicate). I look like I weigh about 190 or so but I'm actually closer to 215.
