View Full Version : Why?

Why can't we make our own custom faces when we reach 5,000 posts? They do this on GovTeen and I think it would be cool to have here.

I was about to make my own but when I saw a post by Alex that said you don't do it anymore I made this thread. I was told that I could once I reached 5,000.

This privilege has sense been revoked. This isn't an official reason, but I think it's to make the site look more professional and for the faces to all be alike.

Yeah, but I think people need some type of privilege because it's an expression.

You have a signature, an avatar, a blog, a creativity forum, and a custom user title. I see plenty of room for expression.

Well, yes, I can see it that way. But, if a person think that the 5,000 face is dull then why can't they just mix it up a bit? It wouldn't hurt. Plus, the 5,000 and 2,500 face are the same. It's basically like having the same face even though you made a new post count.

If you really want to make your own face why not make one and post it here http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=27668 that way if it's good enough it'll be everyone's face at 5000+

you have privilages. You have an avatar, a signature, a blog, diary, an art forum that's free, and a CUSTOM TITLE, which was NOT here all the time, so I'm sorry but you should be happy that you even GET a custom title. You have plenty of ways to express yourself.

I'm not sure about how it is now, but GovTeen doesn't allow signatures. At least you get to have one.

There aren't even enough members with high post counts to really make custom faces look all that diverse. You'd stick out like a sore thumb. And, there's also the chance of a member trying to use one already being used by a member of GovTeen - which kinda makes them get angry at us.

Well the admins are letting the members pick new faces that would apply to everyone so just be happy for that. It won't kill you.

You have other ways to express yourself including your avatar, title, signature, etc

I believe the rule also causes members to not spam just to be able to make their own face.

(The wording was all off, but I hope you guys understood what I meant. :-P )

going back on topic.

I believe all members are equal, now we reward you with custom user title etc. Just cause you have a higher post count that another user doesnt mean you should have a endless list of privileges. A 5000 Face is a big enough one.

/rant

sorry about this just Im fed up of people nagging on about post count privileges

Ditto to all of the above. The 5000 face is going to be changed soon so it won't be the same as the 2500 one and as has been said you have plenty of ways to express yourself and plenty of privileges. Maybe you should stop whining about what you don't have and appreciate what you do have? Yeah, good idea.

I hate custom post count faces anyway because they give the impression that it's the number that's important which we all know is most definitely not the case. If you want to be recognized for your posts, make them helpful and insightful. The number isn't what's important and the number isn't what people should look at.

^^ Then maybe we should base the 'rewards system' on reputation rather than post count [i.e. custom title, diary ownership, etc...] That way the more quality your posts are the more you get 'rewarded' rather than the more posts you have in general the more you get 'rewarded'. Maybe we could institute a custom face option for those with a certain amount of reputation [maybe around the amount you have Val, if not more]?

Like Zach once said, Rep can be abused easily, or given for the wrong reasons.
Why do we need any rewards?
We aren't here to ask for privileges, we are here to help people, or get helped by people.
There are plenty of privileges already. Why fix what isn't broken?

Privileges, rewards. We're acting as if VT owes us something.

I also agree. People are asking for far too much.

It would be different if you paid to be a member here.

I can't decide how I feel really.

I for one wouldn't want to make my own face. It'd be a hassle. So what would happen for those people? Not everyone cares about something like this. Not meaning to sound mean, but I don't really care. I like getting a new face, but I don't really want to make my own.

If you really wanted to, you could make your own and put it as your avatar.

Exactly,

to what AutumnDae said about putting a custom face in ur avatar - thats a great point, this forum gives lots of rewards to all members, such as avatars.

Just to comment on what I said earlier, sorry if I was sounding like I was pointing the finger at someone.

I am not sure if people would be able to do it on their own from the UserCP but if they weren't then the admins owuld have to do A TON! Log into AdminCP then go to your profile then upload it and do all of this extra stuff. Also, since EVERYONES post counts are increasing as time goes on they would have to do this a kajillion times over and over for everyone. So its easier not to have it. And like it was said, there are many ways to express yourself. Just deal with the fact that it is just kinda not going to happen. Maybe you guys can try again a few years from now.

We all should be here to help people so who cares if you don't get to make a fancy face for after a certain amount of posts. It shouldn't matter.

Hell you should be thankful for all the rest that we can customize.

But again, we are here to help people.
