POLKVILLE - Though barely old enough to experience life outside diapers, a 2-year-old boy took the wheel of a Buick Monday evening and ran over his mother, authorities said.
"She left the child alone in the car. The child was able to get the car into reverse and started down the hill," said Trooper J.L. Singalevitch.
The Buick came to rest against a tree after a brief trip down the family's sloped driveway. Lori Gosnell, of 3759 Harris Creek Road, was taken to the hospital for treatment after attempting to stop the barreling baby.
"It ran over her foot and knocked her under the door," Singalevitch said. "Nothing life-threatening but she's cut and bruised up."
The toddler motorist, however, turned out OK.
"The child's fine," the trooper said. "He was pretty excited to see all the blue lights out there."
Because the incident occurred on private property, there's no charges to be filed at this point, Singalevitch said. But from what he's been told, the child has driving experience in more than just Power Wheels.
"The grandfather stated to me that this isn't the first time the child's been able to do this," he said, "which is not the way it's supposed to happen. Never responded to anything like this before. This is a new one on me."
