Mods feel free to move this. I'm not sure if this should go here, or the General Questions and Survey Category. Thanks in advance.

Did anyone watch the Olympic Opening Ceremony? If so then read along! If not then you seriously gotta watch it on youtube. It's incredible.

What did you think about the Ceremony?

What amazed you the most?

What did you least like about it?

If you could ask anything about how they did something, what would it be?

If you were there in person, do you think your reaction would be much different?

Are you looking forward to any events?

FROM BOBBY:
I decided to make this the official thread. So discuss all things about the 2008 Olympics here!

Now, I know that some people have no idea how many sports are actually covered in the Olympics but some of these "sports" are stupid. My main one that I am like "WTF" in is Air Rifle Shooting. Number one, its not a real gone which means no kcik back. And second they wear suits that make them stiff to the point that they cant feel their heartbeat. It is rediculous and I think its not really sporty...

well congrats to the youngest swimmer on the australian swimming team, cate campbell, who won bronze in the 50m freestyle. congrats to the australian swimming captain and veteran, grant hackett, on silver in the 1500m freestyle. too bad he couldn't win gold in his last olympics. and final congrats on our gold medal winning team of emily seebohm, leisel jones, jess schipper and libby trickett in the 4x100m medley relay. our female swimmers in particular have carved it up in the pool and has done our little country down under proud. when you think that we only have 20 million people in our country, to win as many medals as we have is a great achievement. :D

How about that Michael Phelps? Swimming for the US, he went 8-for-8 in gold medals! He broke Mark Spitz' record of 7 gold medals for the most in a single Olympiad.

For the US, Venus and Serena Williams won the gold in women's tennis doubles.

And for Spain, Rafael Nadal keeps on rolling with a straight set winner for the gold medal in men's tennis singles. His place at #1 goes into effect tomorrow.

i would like to dwell on the new zealand effort here. being an australian, its my duty to insult new zealand as much as possible. but i do want to acknowledge that new zealand has won 2 gold medals in the rowing which i think is great. the gold medal drought is over. but one thing is very ironic about new zealand winning these gold medals in the rowing. it seems that new zealand performs at its best when they are sitting down going backwards. :P

USA, Nigeria and Great Britain's men 4x100m relay are out. They all dropped/mucked up their pass over of the baton and have been disqualified.
Shame.
USA did the same thing in the womens race too.
Again Shame.
Congrats to Phillip Idowu who managed to just miss out on a gold in the triple jump. :-)

Also, good luck to my home nation Great Britain for London 2012, it's going to be tough topping the chinese in what i personally believe was the best olympiad ever.
