But this question implies that they are different to other people, at least in the workplace.

I wouldn't care about their sexual orientation, I'd care only about how they do their job, though, let's say I'm a manager of a fancy restaurant, where the costumers would mostly be old annoying and homophobic women/men, I wouldn't hire them as waiters; but it depends on the person who i'm willing to hire.

Background detail? Please explain.

Since when do people advertise their private lives while carrying out their jobs?
To say that you wouldn't hire them because they aren't straight and some customers would have a problem with it is discrimination.

There's no reason not to. My old school was a very gay-friendly place as seen by the staff, apparently.
The grade 8 counselor is gay,
a teacher is gay,
and one of the club managers are gay.
And I am gay.
If I had a company, I would hire people of any sexual orientation, any race, and any religion, even. I'll just look into if they are a friendly person or a mean person. I wouldn't want to have mean and unfriendly people in my company, and especially homophobics and racists.

if they were able to do the job, i would have no reason to not hire them.

They are in many peoples eyes, they are like aliens, and should be stayed away from. Not from me, but...

I will say this and I will say it now.
If anybody votes "No", then you and I have a problem.
