You simple can't just orgasm from touching the head of the penis. The underside is the "sweet spot" (frenelum) for most males. And by playing withcertains places on your penis your'e more tended to get aroused.

ok it seems that everybody is confused about what is masturbating and how to "create" an orgasm.
Masturbating is getting sexual gratification through self-stimulation. This doesn't just mean rubbing up and down. This means any way possible of pleasuring yourself sexually. some guys don't only "go up and down" to get to orgasm. They can rub that senitive "sweet spot" alex said, called the frenulum, try to rosey palm method, etc. It's not always "up and down".
and sufficient sexual stimulation will cause an orgasm, not "create" one.

well of course rubbing the penis head feels good or maybe even intense, but sometimes it dosen't do it ALL for a lot of guys. There is no reason I can think of. And it doesn't do it for me,either. Maybe it's not enough stimulation, or at least not enough to get you to orgasm. But it really doesn't matter. There's nothing wrong with this and it causes no problems, right?

My view is that most guys needs to stimulate their whole penis to be able to actually have an orgasm, but the post above this one made a good point that everyone is different and what works for one guy may not be the same for another. To me, rubbing the head is way too intense and that orgasms are best done gradually. Your intense feelings of rubbing your head is normal, but I don't think that doing so is giving you enough feeling to actually orgasm.

Well although the head of the penis is the most sensitive area on the penis... I believe that the vein underneath the penis is the area you stimulate to orgasm. Therefore the 'up and down' motion stimulates the penis in the correct manner. I dont know though. I'm not a expert. :P I base this information on studying my own penis. Practice makes perfect :D

It is a really sensitive spot. No, you can't orgasm by touching it. If you take one finger an rub up and down, that is masterbating.

Most guys heads are too sensitive to rub for long enough to orgasm. The shaft is tougher, so I can just stroke that until I orgasm. I assume this is true for other ppl, but like homeralli said, this is just from my own experiences

I think the correct answer is that masturbation only simulates sex, the hand's motion going up and down isn't a very good approximation of what real sex is like, the hand (lubed or not, with or without foreskin) cannot create the same sensations as vaginal sex. In sex, the entire penis is in constant contact with the vagina, which produces a very different sensation. Each part of the penis creates a subtle difference, which you feel as a whole. It's like listening to a symphony, you hear the instruments, but taken together they sound much diffeently.
When you masturbate, the hand stimulates only a part of the penis at time, and that stimulation is very different, enough so that orgasm occurs, but it's all very different. So, when you masturbate, you can touch just one part, which feels good b/c it's being touched seperately. Think of that musical analogy, if sex is like listening to the whole symphony, masturbation is like listening to just one or two instruments.
