Not sure if this is the right spot for this but...

Hi, ive recently started trying to have lucid dreams. For those of you who dont know what lucid dreams are, they are freams where you can control everything in it.

Now to the point.

Every night, even after i tried stopping lucidity, ive had massive nightmares and i cant wake up out of them for some reason. does anyone have any advice at all

Have people tried to wake you up when you've had these nightmares?

Have you been able to consciously wake yourself up from any other dreams?
It seems strange to me that you would be worried that you can't as I don't know of anyone who can do this.

How do you feel when you wake up afterwards?

One solution is to wake yourself during the Lucid. Just don't like.. jump off a building or something.. The shock can kill you. Anyway, what you HAVE to remember is that nightmares can't hurt you. No matter how real or scary they may seem, they're not real. You could try a Phycologist?

Ah, sounds like sleep paralysis.

Are you awake when these nightmares happen?

If so, I believe it is sleep paralysis.

SP (Sleep Paralysis) happens often when people wake up from a lucid dream, but can not move. This is because when dreaming, your brain releases chemicals (forgot the name) that keep you from acting out your dreams, (so you don't just jump around the house!) and when you wakeup, the chemicals are still in your bloodstream, preventing you from moving. However, the conscious side of your brain then panics, because you find yourself unable to move.

When the panic occurs, often times you will imagine things. Often times these images you will see could be similar to shadows mocing/ghosts/demons/a mysterious large figure next to you.

It can be a very VERY scary experience, but you will be fine, and the SP is only temporary.

:)

Uh do you mean it can kill you in real life or in the dream, thats a little scary to think about.

You can have a heart attack in real life, that's why it's so dangerous to wake sleepwalkers. It's also why in a dream if you fall and hit something you'll wake up because of the shock.

Yup, you shouldn't wake sleepwalkers, unless they are about to do something dangerous in real life (such as fall down stairs)

Well yeah but they might die anyway so hey... Unless they're going to do something that will certainly kill them, like fall off a cliff... But this is going off topic a little... Maybe I shouldn't of mentioned jumping off a building..

True, maybe you could just, turn them the other way. :\

If you find that these nightmares leave you feeling very anxious, frightened and sweaty after you wake up then you should see a specialist.

I've just been reading up on lucid dreams after I read this but I'm not sure what to make of them, are they real or semi-real like psychics or what? They say it's been proven but I don't know what to think, would I be wasting my time to try it?

Anyway it's like 2:41 AM so I'm going to try it tonight and see what happens, who knows eh...

What do you mean by "real" and "semi-real"?

What do you mean by "real" and "semi-real"?

By real I mean it has been properly tested and actually happens, by semi-real I mean it "could" in theory happen, but for the average person it doesn't.

Ramen Lord, can you make yourself fly and stuff in the lucids? Is it as amazing as it's supposed to be? I'm REALLY wanting to try this if it's true..

Did it work for you?

Did it work for you?

Nah I'd worked a 9 hour day and stayed up for too long to concentrate on what I was supposed to be doing, I'm gonna try in half an hour or so.

I know there have been studies carried out on lucid dreaming and people have hypothesised as to what happens in the brain when someone has a lucid dream. I think that they are rare dreams to have though.

Man I had a lucid a few days ago, it was awesome!
I remembered that I always have dreams when I have a good nights sleep, wake up, then go straight back to sleep five or ten minutes later.
I had about five dreams in a row, one of which was lucid, the other ones were just crazy..
But yeah it was good, not as amazing as people claim even though I was fully lucid.

I’m not sure exactly what you are experiencing, but I often have lucid dreams, I will suddenly realize part way through that I am experiencing a dream. If this is what is happening to you, but you are stuck in a nightmare, then maybe instead of trying to wake up you can try and alter the dream. Or come up with another situation you often dream about that you know doesn’t lead to stressing you out and focus on that, doing your best not to think of anything else, usually you will end up switching over to that dream. That always works for me. I hope this makes sense.
