If you don't like Windows, what don't you like about it?
If you don't like Apple, what don't you like about it?
And what do you like about the one you prefer?

I prefer Windows (XP) because I build my own systems and I game. Mac OS X is locked to Apple hardware and isn't as compatible due to lower market share. Neither is inherently better than the other, it just depends on what you use it for.

I think apple computers are good for work and design and stuff like that. I would like a Mac though. I have 2 win. XP computers and 1 Vista. THey each have pros and cons.

I don't like apple, because I am a hardcore gamer, and I have diffrent preferences, so I use Vista.
But don't get me wrong, I am still waiting for windows 7.

I've worked with macs at school and pretty much that's what their good for work. Windows is more like a leisure time computer. I like Macs but I love Windows.

WHY ME?
Flex, you shouldnt of posted this, mac vs windows is a big thing here on vt.
First of all, we all grew up on windows(most of us) so we are all partial to windows, even me...
You may like windows, but i like apple. its easier for me to use, it has a better interface, its faster, and is better for media, if you want a computer to do stuff like programming, or word. Windows takes up more space. Just because there are more applications for windows, thats because mac is making a big comeback.

I like both. We have had Mac's all my life in our house so I am used to them. At school we have Windows, so I am also used to that. I know both systems pretty well, friends houses, school, and my house for Mac.
Mac for me seems easier to use but harder to figure some stuff out. It bothers me that things that I want aren't compatible with it though.
Windows bothers me some times, but I like it nonetheless.

I can ask if I want. I'm curious why people are being such jerks about the whole thing :(

Personally, I hate Macs with a passion. Apple as a company has a tenancy to be "If we make it pretty and shiny, people will buy it". Which pisses me off. I won't go up to someone and laugh at them for having a Mac, or try to get them to switch over to Windows/Linux, so I'm not like that. But Apple just pisses me off. (And from personal experience, they are a B1TCH to work with!) Don't get me wrong, Mac has it's pros, but I just dislike it. Now on the pretty and shiny subject, you might come back and say "Vista was only graphical improvements". Bullshit! Vista had a ton of technical improvements, and kernel level upgrades. Even before this "Areo" thing became a concept. Vista was still, functionality BEFORE prettiness.
Now you asked why I support my OSs?
Well, Windows has a lot of functionality, all the functionality of a Mac, but more. You can stick Windows on any machine, including one you built yourself. Can you do that with a Mac? I think not!
Linux, now because it's open source, you can change ANY ASPECT of the OS that you like. If you discover a memory leak, go ahead, fix it. Can you do that with a Mac or Windows? Nope. You just let it sit there and submit a report to MS or Apple and the problem may or may not get fixed. Also because it's open source, it's got a HUGE community backing it, and constantly rolling out different apps, programs, and games for it. And again, because it's an open source app/program/game, you can change anything about the app/program/game that you like!
As you can see, Linux is my favorite OS. :D
Macs are pretty, Windows has functionality, and Linux is just PURE PWNAGE!
And Flex, I agree with you. I have no idea why everyone gets in a hissy fit over which is the best OS. Because the answer to that question comes down to your personal preference, and what you are gonna use it for.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on the subject. Like 'em or hate 'em!

I hate fanboys of either. iTards really piss me off; my sister is one. She practically worships anything that comes out of Steve Jobs' ass.

Sorry I'm late with this, Im technically grounded and have to sneak on the internet. But heres my stance.
My Mac vs. PC argument:
I want to start off by saying, I used to be a complete Windows fan. Until my sister got a Mac for Christmas. I had a fit. I told my father he never should have done that, how could he, and all this other crap. But he made me set it up. The second I turned on the MacBook for the first time I was in love. (not really, but I was beginning to see the wonders of Mac OS X. (And this was before Leopard, when Tiger was still the OS)
It really depends on what you use if for. Media? Making home movies? Podcasting? Good luck on a PC. But Mac makes it a breeze.
Need to do work? Word? Excel? Powerpoint? Sure a PC is fine, but why not make it even better. You have a few options. 1.) Use iWork. iWork is fully compatible with Microsoft office. Yeah, wow. 2.) Buy Microsoft Office 2008:mac, same things you get on a PC, just for Mac! 3.) Install windows on your Mac. Yes, you read that right, you can install and run windows right on your Mac. Yeah, double wow.
The options for running windows on your Mac? Quite nice actually, there are a few. The free version? Boot Camp. Provided with every Mac running Leopard, it makes it really easy to dual boot your Mac, just bring your own Windows install disk, works with Vista and XP. Then, there's virtualization. Things like VMware Fusion, or Parallels. These make it easy and fun to run Windows while still in Mac OS X. Run your favorite apps side by side. (Thats not the best option for gamers though, if your into gaming, I would go with dual booting.)
Now people complain that Apple doesn't allow there OS to be put on other types of PC's. Why don't they? Because they like to minimize problems. Think about it. If the same company that makes the software makes the hardware, couldn't they do a much better job of avoiding compatibility issues? Thats why Apple makes both the software and the hardware. To avoid problems. Think about all the compatibility problems Vista has. Ouch.
I think the ability to get the "best of both worlds" pretty much breaks the tie. I have both dual boot and Virtualization (VMware to be specific incase you were wondering) and they run great, the dual boot can run The Sims 2, a resource hogging game, just fine and dandy.
Thats a stance from an ex-PC user. I made the switch in December 2006. Its never to late to turn around and head down the right path. :D

BBecker this is what i get from your post:
Mac Programmer:Crap most of the Microsoft stuff is better! Lets make it so that they can buy our shiny computers and make Microsoft Office compatible so they think we did all the work!
Consumer: Brilliant!

No. What I was trying to say to all the die heart PC users is that a Mac is just as good, if not better because it can be both.

Any computer will run Mac OS X, but Steve Jobs is a retard and won't sell it. Dual booting is something non-macs have done for many years.
