my nail broke off

my whole nail just snapped off. i'm not talking about only the white tip. the whole cuticle is gone, and it hurts like hell. is it going to grow back? what can i do to relieve the pain?

The exact same thing happened to me when I smashed my finger in a car door. Just wrap up your finger and put some ice on it. It will grow back but there will be some bruising under it.

i'm semish so I will try and answer this without vomiting. Yes it will grow back. Put something cool on it and wait till the bleeding stops *if it hasn't already*

i've been keeping a band aid over it all day. it doesn't feel right without the nail there. does anyone know how long it will take to fully grow back?

It didn't take long for it to grow back on me, go to a doctor so they can properly wrap it and medicate it.

Try keeping a band aid over it. *I did a stupid thing and fell outa bed today, the wheel of my chair then crushed my toe and its still bleading :P*

Did the nail turn black first before it came off? or did it just pop right off?

the whole nail ripped off. the longer you have your nails, the easier they break.

Righto, put some Iodine or hydrogen peroxide on the wound to stop any nasty infection getting in. It will sting like nothing else at first, but remember; it's gonna look and feel a hell of a lot nastier if it gets infected.
Keep the band-aid on for a little way, maybe the first day, but you need to remove it to allow the wound to get some air and breath a little bit, because if you keep it covered by a band-aid, it's not going to do that and the wound will start to weep, and that can lead to infection.
Also; your nail will grow back at the normal rate nails usually do, but it's going to be a few weeks before it's back to the way it was.

Keep a bandage on it if you hate looking at it. It could get infected use some alcohol or peroxide and it will grow back it might take a while but it will.

If it starts to change color then it might be infected though.

My friend, Rowan, lost her nail once. It took about a week to grow back and she left it in the open. Although for her it was crushed, turned purple and fell off. But use an antibiotic cream on it like Savlon. Wrap it up if you like, but it will heal faster out in the open.

my nail is almost grown back. it's about half way there. i don't need a band aid. i'm just waiting for it to cover all that ugly skin.
