Music is sort of spiritual, because it's a combination of ingenuity and poetry which can dipict emotions. Songs, without the melody and harmonies and backups, are just poems really. And poems are designed to portray images and ideas and emotions.
Music can portray so many emotions and ideas. A lot of what depression is (in my opinion) is confusion and anxiety. And maybe the music in the songs can help you not only relax, but the words may help you sort out some of the thoughts in your mind.
That's just what I think though. Music can be used as a form of therapy; without words, or lyrical, because it can help you relax, and you can only focus on what you hear, and forget everything around you...

I play my own music, I feel as though putting my heart and soul into playing will keep me at peace.

Any type of music can help as long as you are passionate about it.

Music almost always helps...I'm usually listening to it anyway though...If I get mad or depressed then I play the piano, but if I'm really mad or depressed, I go to the church and play the organ and piano...The reason I go to the church is because I can be alone and just pound out songs and calm down. I also find listening to heavy metal, like Metallica or something that sounds angry, lets you take out a lot of emotion. It does work most of the time.
