For a long time now I have talked to myself in private while walking around. Sometimes i'm caught. Its just, I dont like doing it. But I feel that I must. I am always doing stuff. But even when I think of something new, I have to go talk to my self about it. Its this natural? I have done this a lot. I think its because I have no friends living near me. Please help.

Thanks

Do you have full conversations with yourself or just a few sentences?

I talk to myself quite a bit and know of a few others who do too, so don't worry too much about being too strange or eccentric :)

Sounds alright, heck I even do it a lot of people do. Especially when I'm doing something, like a list of things, it's like I'm prepping myself up. It's normal, heck sometimes I pretend to be other people and have mock conversations with them to prep myself up for a sermon I'm going to deliver to them.

Just don't let it get out of hand, which you'll know if it is. It seems like I look at the clock and I ask myself a question and if it's an even number I'll be okay but if it's an odd number I won't, it's weird how I'm relying on that but that's a whole different story.

Full conversations. Most of it is fantasy. Eg: mixing a star wars film with harry potter. I usually spend 30 mins-1 hour up there. Yesterday I got caught by my grandad! I just hate doing it.... But I just cant seam to stop.

I talk to myself when I'm really concentrating. like if it's math i might say "borrow the 1 and carry it to the xxyz" or somethinh. I usually kinda mumble it.

I gues everyone does that. But its not that I have conversations its that I act it out.

like this

me: alright troop load up im gonna chump out the plain
troop: yes sur *chunk chunk - walking noise*
me: Here I go *ksssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhh - making a falling air type noise*

etc.....Even though i'm walking round an allotment my imagination tells me i'm there. I can see everything happening in my head. That's why i'm such a good reader. Maybe I might make a good actor one day.

As long as you're not doing this in public, it's OK. If you can internalize this chat when you're out and about, it would prevent a lot of unwanted looks and comments!

It's been shown (and I'm sorry I do not recall the reference but it is one of those things that I came across and remember b/c it's so interesting), that people who talk to themselves in private tend to be brighter intellectually and moe creative. They also tend to be more verbal and articulate, and probably not as lonely, since they always have some one to talk with!

How about that!

i'm currently trying to keep myself occupied and having my friends come round constantly so I actually can talk to people. This is helping but the urge to do it is overwhelming. Are well. I will just do something else with my spare time.

If I'm extremely mad about something I tend to talk to myself, just to get it out.
But hun, as long as it doesn't stop you for partaking in your usual activities, you're fine!

I'm pushing myself away from it now. Spending more time on other stuff and on msn. Also getting more depressed about not seeing Rosie. :( I do it to escape the real world. To put myself somewhere else.

Thank you for all your help

you're not alone there. everyone talks to themselves once in a while. Me, i usually have full bloated conversations with myself, all of them in my imaginary world.
If it really bothers you, try writing out what you imagine. that's what i'm doing right now. you might end up making a book like that someday.
