Well, for fun, I took a personality disorder test (one of those myspace things) and I came up positive for a few of them

I decided to look into it, and it turns out those discriptions fit me very well... I looked into it on a few more sites and a few more tests, and its all the same.

Its mostly Schitzotypal, Avoidant, Dependant, Historenric (?), and Borderline, i beleive

I know i shouldnt beleive online tests like those, but i knew i never was right, and when i took these it kinda opened my eyes that there actually might be a problem or so... Councilors used to check me for depression and what not, but i tihnk i might have personality disorders...

I just dont know where to go from here, because my family cant afford insurance, let alone i cannot tell them=- they arent the most open minded or accepting people around,

Try going to a school counselor
They can help you out a lot
And they probably won't tell your parents

How old are you?

It is widely accepted in the fields of psychology/psychiatry that an individuals personality is still developing during their teens. For a diagnosis of a PD to be given to an under 18 year old is controversial.

If I were you, I would put it all to the back of my mind. Those tests are just for a laugh and are not to be taken seriously.

Do the problems you experience cause you great misery or difficulty in your everyday life? For example, do you find yourself unable to do normal everyday things without needing someone to advise you?

Feel free to pm me anytime :)

Well, you are right that these online tests are pretty wortheless. Personality is a fairly complex thing, and cannot be assessed with any accuracy with an online test. And, has been pointed out, personality is one of those things that you cannot see, but still grows and changes pretty dramatically during puberty too, so it's not 'done' enough to actually measure or define until you're an adult. What you took was for 'entertainment purposes only', and unfortunately it's not very entertaining. Beware the internet, use common sense when determining the validity of anything you see or participate in. Things that typically require a professional assessment (like medical/psychological/personal things) cannot be determined with accuracy online.

Forget it, the results mean nothing. If you've got other issues that have been properly identified (like your depression), those should be addressed by a counselor or therapist.

Well ur right,

Im 16 and theyre made for entertainment only- thats why i didnt take it too seriously

I looked at other sites that are medical and looked at what they say and theyre saying the same thing for symptoms too however.

yeah, im still developing i guess and ill wait on this a few years,
But it put the idea in my head
im gonna check it out when im older tho-
im fitting the descriptions quite well

I am glad that you are not going to act on it for the time being. Trust me, you do not want to recieve a diagnosis of a PD - BPD in particular. They are just labels and can bring along with them more disadvantages than advantages. (This obviously depends on the diagnosis, but it does happen!)

The difference between "fitting the description" and it "significantly interfering" with your day to day life are very different. For example, I have a friend who hates being on her own and will opt for company over solitude anyday. But she doesn't fall to pieces if she doesn't have someone by her side to advise her on everyday decisions.

You know what they say - open up the DSM and see your friends and family in there. You made the right choice not acting on it right away. If it's not causing you any bother then it's probably not worth worrying about.
