soon I will be reinitializing or re-installing windows. So all my data will be erased.

Now my only concern is with my iTunes and my iPod. Will I still be able to use my iPod with this computer once I re-install?

yes, but you will have to re download iTunes. I think you can (and should) backup your iTunes songs to disks, if your computer can do that. otherwise, you'll have to get them all again (i think)

Wipe your iPod, enable disk use, and copy all the songs onto it as an external hard drive. After you reinstall copy them to the computer off the iPod, delete the files from the iPod, and sync it. Or just use an external hard drive or secondary hard drive.

I thought that when you hook your iPod up to a new computer it asks if you want your iPod to sync with it?

It does. Doing so would simply wipe all of the music off of his iPod, though. You have to put the files on as an external hard drive rather than by syncing to transfer them to another computer. I think it's really stupid.

yeah. iTunes should have a backup feature.

Is your music purchased through itunes Zach?

Cause there is a feature that is called "transfer purchases". It takes the music off your iPod into your library. I'm not sure if it works with music that wasn't purchased on iTunes. All of mine is.

Did you put it on as an external hard drive or via syncing? The latter will make this more difficult.

all I did was put all my music on my iPod and reinstalled Windows. I didn't even read this thread so I didn't have any idea of the external hard drive option.

Well, I know Winamp used to be able to reverse sync an iPod (as in it would copy files off of it), but I'm not sure if it still works. I'd give copying with Winamp a shot, otherwise I don't know what you can do.

Edit: Other programs I found googling.

well it looks like I had nothing to worry about. I installed iTunes and it asked me if I wanted to transfer my purchases and then sync. So really I lost nothing because all my purchases were transfered into the new library and everything else came from discs I still have.

thanks anyway!

An easy way to keep all you music and files from iTunes is to go into you computer's music folder and copy the "iTunes" folder... It contains a library file that has ALL of your music and such as well as other files... When you re-install it, put iTunes onto your computer and replace the new folder with the old one from your old files...

Hope that helps :D
