View Full Version : Poison Ivy?

My uncle recently got poison ivy, and I am afraid that he might pass it on to me. It's on his left wrist/forearm area, and a little on his shin. He touched me on purpose where he had it as a joke, but it hadn't shown up yet.

Is poison ivy even contagious? I've never had it, and I'm not showing any signs of it yet, but is there a chance that it could?

poison ivy is not contagious, i have hands on experience... literally. my cousin came over to my house one evening to hang out, he had been working in his yard prior to coming over. he had it ALL up and down his arms, and his hands. he gave me an indian burn with his "ivy-hands". i didn't get any break out. although, i'm fairly prone to getting poison ivy if i come in contact with the leaf.

hope that helps.

although, if you do get a break out, make sure you nuture it as SOON as you feel the itch, or you see any glimpse of a break out. if so, purchase these drugs at your local drugstore:

tecnu "the original" outdoor skin cleanser

&

calagel maximum strength anti-itch gel

i think you can buy these in a package, i'm not sure though.

Tecnu is what I use, it didn't work though, because I am so allergic, that I had to get a shot.
Anyway, there is actually some poison ivy repellent you can buy, that should keep you from getting infected.

It is contagiuos actually it is an acid based form. It works simeliar to the ways that chiles or hot peppers do, they have this acid that moves over the area.

No, autumn, Poison Ivy isn't contagious. What you see, that rash, is the result of the contact with the plant resin. It is not contagious at all.

Thank you. I probably could have figured that out by now, seeing as I don't have it.

no, the poison is not an acid based form. no, poison ivy is not contagious. yes, if you come into contact with the plant itself, you will develope a rash. that is, if you're prone to the poison.
