Anyone keep up with this series? Unfortunately, I've only seen about half or less of the episodes, but I've got to say, this has been one of the best series that I've ever seen. It's not really a traditional anime, but it might as well be, because it has very detailed characters, backgrounds, and foregrounds.
Anyway, I just caught the last half of the final episode (a 2 hour-long finale). I didn't see everything, but I still loved the ending.
What does everyone else think of it?

Heh, your lucky that you live in a different time zone. I missed the first half... But, I still enjoyed the ending - it leaves some things to be wondered, but it still concludes everything perfectly.

Well, I didn't realize that the movie was coming on again on the second Nickelodeon channel :P I didn't catch the beginning, but I caught more than I did the first time. And yes, there is a wide range of emotions that the movie makes viewers feel, and I think that's fantastic.
Hopefully in about a month or so, a torrent will be available with the entire series and the four-part final episode :D
But, all in all, I loved the series, and I hope to watch it all the way through sometime. :)

OMG ^^ I love it lol I recorded the episode today cause I was going to the movies at the same time :O The series is actually really good but I just wish they could keep on making them and not have to stop lol I don't like reruns :D
Kiros
July 20th, 2008, 05:48 AM
Yeah, I don't reruns either, and I would love for them to make a fourth book about how their lives go on from there. Maybe not even another book - just one more episode that shows more of the harmony that was restored.
At any rate, I do realize that all things must come to an end - however unfortunate that may be. Though Avatar: The Last Airbender was and is the finest animated series that I have ever followed. I'm glad that I caught one of the first chapters back in 2005. :)

I love this show! Ahh!
They had a minimarthon ruinning on friday with some things I havent seen before.
Although it is very hard for me to keep up with it because the shows that I see are reruns and they don't go in order like other reruns which is annoying. But I havent seen much of the last season but yeah I totally love the show.

I love this show, and after watching Sozin's Comet last night I'd say it tied up almost all the loose ends, but still, I could see them making a fourth book... I saw all of the first season, almost none of the second season, and most of the third season... There are rumors of a Fourth Book entitled "The Last Bloodbender" as well as rumors that there needs to be a Fourth Book because there are four elements... M. Night Shyamalan is coming out with a movie called "The Last Airbender" in 2010 though. There are also rumors that there could be a spinoff series coming out in a year or two.

oh most definitely! The humor is cute, the voices suit all the characters, and the animation style rules! and the plot is soooo cool

I think after watching the last episode, that they set it up so that they could keep on making more when Zuko was like, wheres my mother?

^^ Yeah, I thought that too, but I also thought that that didn't seem like enough to base a whole 'nother season off, I was anticipating a sneak peek at a new villain or something like that at the end. M. Night Shyamalan's movie should be interesting, and I would definitely watch a spinoff series... :D

I read about M. Night's movie that's planned to be out by 2010. Personally, I'm scared that it won't be anything comparable to the series. I'm not trying to say that M. Night is a bad director, but the direction that Avatar took was very unique, and I doubt that M. Night could expand the idea without changing it. =/ In short, I'm kind of worried.
I'm not sure that the rumored fourth book "The Last Bloodbender" is a real concept. The series (which has the three books, "Water", "Earth", and "Fire") is named Avatar: The Last Airbender. I don't think that a fourth book would be called "The Last Bloodbender" while the series name is Avatar: The Last Airbender. There are four elements, but air (also known as wind) wasn't covered because Aang didn't have an adventure with airbending - he did have to learn water, earth, and fire, however.
There are unanswered questions, like:
The whereabouts of Zuko's mother
Explanation of Katara's blood/body bending (unless that was in a chapter I haven't seen)
After the war was over, what happened to the secret alliance of the four nations (the masters dressed in white).
But, I assume that many things are possible. Maybe there will be another book written for Avatar: The Last Airbender. Maybe there will be another series created for Avatar. Maybe there will just be one more "bonus" chapter inside an untitle book that concludes everything. I'm not sure, but I sure hope there will be something. :)

Lol yeah there was an episode where this old lady/witch/waterbender taught Katara how to blood bend. Pretty good episode but I won't spoil it for you :D

A while back, I wouldnt have cared. But I absolutly loved the finale. Left off with a happy ending. Hope they do make more, left me wanting more. The suspense of Zuko's mother is killing me (although it first seemed that she was killed). And Katara's mysterious healing powers have me confused too.

Oh, well that's good to hear. When I saw what she did in the final chapters with bending the guy up, I was like "OH MY GOD, that's beast!" (beast is a term that my local people use for something that is incredibly awesome... Some people haven't heard it used like that before, so I thought I should explain.) So yeah, I was in awe when I saw that. But thanks for noting that it was covered in a chapter that I didn't catch!

Yeah lol, and we use that a lot around where I live lol except we're more like "im such a beast" or "hes beastly" lol Yeah its freakin sweet, earthbending has metalbending, fire has lightning, water has blood, but then air is.....well its just kinda there lol You can't really add on anything to it.
Kiros
July 21st, 2008, 08:43 AM
I was kind of thinking of that, too. But water also has ice and healing abilities. I know that firebending is special on it's own because it allows the instant creation of the element. All other bending must use elements that are already existing in the area. Some people would say that this is a flaw in the series, but it's not. Both fire and lightning are energy rather than matter, so they are not constant, thus firebenders would be able to create energry by using their own energry with (rather than shaping and moving matter). If I followed the series more deeply, I could probably also pick out special things from the other types of bending. :|

George, airbending is rumored to have the ability to use something called "climate change".

It would be cool if the put in the supposed fifth element "ether". I read an awesome book in which "ether" was used to destroy an entire empire. 'Twas interesting though I don't remember everything about the book and what ether was and how it killed everyone/destroyed everything was left a mystery.

Treebending would just be earthbending lol, trees are a part of the earth. :D

Well there was that guy from the swamp who controled the seaweed and stuff :D But that was water bending.
Kiros
July 23rd, 2008, 06:43 PM
Well, a lot of things have water in them - including blood. In fact, a human body mainly consists of water. So I don't think that something like bloodbending is as "creppy" as other people might think.
And yes, aether has been dubbed as a fifth element - a heavenly element that Aristotle claimed to be incapable of change. On that note, I doubt that there would be something like aetherbending.
I doubt that the creators of Avatar want there to be a mystical fifth element recognized. So I believe that an additional "bonus" chapter or book might come out that concludes things, rather than adding an additional element to the mix - if they did that, the intro to every episode would not seem correct (4 elements, 4 nations).

^^ Yes, but maybe the next book could take place 100 years into the future, and there could be a new avatar and maybe descendants of past characters could be involved. It would be interesting if they did that. Maybe the water nation could be evil and the fire nation good, or in the case of the next book taking place in the future, they could even introduce a new nation/element. Whatever they do, I'm sure it will be interesting.
