I'm not sure if this is the right section but I just want to bring this to the admin's attention.

I was browsing VT today and I got a message from my virus protection saying that it blocked a worm that came from this exact site. I want to know if this has happened to anyone else on here. Is there anything that can be done?

I've never gotten anything form this site...nor has it cause reaction from my anti-virus or spy sweeper.

Yes it did.

You're kidding right... I have to say this?

"What is the address?"

I can't get any more information on it for some reason.

There's no way you can get a virus from just browsing this site. HTML isn't allowed on the forums so nothing can't be embedded. Seeing that no one else has had this problem I think its pretty certain that the error had nothing to do with VT.

Matt, sure you weren't brousing other sites? or maybe your virus is just kookie

Sugaree

No, I was browsing this exact site. It wasn't a cookie.

kookie=crazy, not brousing cookie

that is REALLY odd though... lets chalk it up to your virus protector goin nuts casue nobody else has it

You should've taken a screenshot of the warning you got.

It's possible for a bug in your AV to pick up what it thinks is a virus but actually has no threat.

Sugaree

That could have happened. If it does happen again I'll get a shot of it.

It's extremely unlikely you got a virus off VT though. vBulletin is very secure, and like Ant said, HTML isn't allowed to be used on the forum.

mabye its just your viruse protection i mean i had a version of norton but it started to say that this virus started this and that total bs so i updated it and it fixed it an now i didnt update so then it did it again but got worse so mabye update your virus protection it might work. im not sure tho.

Seems a bit odd to get a virus from a site like this. Though I do remember my genius of a brother downloaded a cracked AVG that was actually a virus itself so it kept on trying to remove itself from itself lol

What virus protection are you using, to be honest it was probably a error on your program since vb is dead secure and also theres no way to put html on the site as in in posts. the only html is the forum code itself.

I have gotten one from a hacker, traced it and sent it back to him.

Well, Charles, do you remember what part of the site that you were browsing?
Is your anti-virus combined with your firewall - or are there two different programs, or do you not have a firewall installed?

Well I have a pretty good fire wall its a major corp firewall so it must have gotten burned because nothin ever happened and i use webroot spy sweeper it just gave me a notification and went away

Not at all. And I'm on VT almost 24/7 So I think it might have been coincidence.

Well are you sure it was THIS site? I know the answer to that...well as far as I know.
So don't answer it lol

But anyways does anyone know if VT has any copycat site thingies. Like Myspace and Facebook. I know it would be stupid because they would have to pay and such but yeah are there?

Did you click on a users sig by any chance. That could have opened a tab which contained a virus?

Yeah. You could have gotten a link from someone by a PM or anything. There are lots of ways that the virus could have happened, that doesn't necessarily mean the forum caused it.

Sometimes I get a message saying that my antivirus has blocked such and such from this page. I dont know what it is.

Mr. Smithers
July 24th, 2008, 08:40 PM
Its probably your firewall, or a pop up or something.

Zan0ra

Yeah probably, I just deactivate it. Sometimes I think its a pm and will go to my folder to look. :)

Yeah I never knew why when you get a PM it just pops up like that. I can never open it though since I have pop up blocker. I have to see it manually.

Yeah I never knew why when you get a PM it just pops up like that. I can never open it though since I have pop up blocker. I have to see it manually.

It's a setting that's automatically enabled when you join. Some people like to be notified of their PMs like that. In order to disable it, go to your UserCP->Edit Options; there is a box on that page you can check that enables/disables it.

But anyways does anyone know if VT has any copycat site thingies. Like Myspace and Facebook. I know it would be stupid because they would have to pay and such but yeah are there?

I really doubt that, it was be kinda stupid if someone did =/

I have gotten this message once before on this site, but only once and my antivirus didn't find anything. VT should be secure as far as I know
