Hey everyone, what do you think a good age is for starting to have sex? I know somepeople have it when they are like 13, but some people have it at 20. Whats your opinion?

When you feel you and your boyfriend are mature enough to do so.

I'd suggest not at 13.

Personally, I'm waiting until marriage, but I'd say you should wait, and never rush into it.

Virginity is something you can only lose once. Make sure it is to someone special.

People should have sex only when they are ready and wanting of it. If you cannot go into a store and buy a condom without being shy about it, then you are probably not ready. It is more about emotional maturity than it is about age.

When your ready physically AND mentally.
You'll know when you're ready to do it,
It just tends to happen.

personally, i think the only time you should have sex is when you want a baby. you definately are not ready for a baby if you're under 18.

As others have said above. Only when you KNOW your ready. Isn't there a legal age for it anyways?

Well sort of... In some places if you are below 16 you can be charged with statutory rape still there aren't many of those cases.

It's impossible to give an answer to that question, because everyone matures at a different rate.
However, a good TIME in your life to have sex would be when; a) You are in a secure, loving relationship, b) You feel completely ready and are comfortable with your decision to have sex.
There is no "right" age.

I completely agree with this. No good will come of it if you aren't emotionally alright with it.

Well sort of... In some places if you are below 16 you can be charged with statutory rape still there aren't many of those cases.

I think you are a bit confused here. If an adult (anyone over 18) has sex with a minor under the age of consent then the adult can be charged with statutory rape.

RaisingSand

Technically, I don't think he is confused, Dig it. Laws vary from state to state and in different countries. For example, the legal age to have consentual sex in New Zealand is 16.

Damaged, I wasn't disputing the age of consent. It just seemed to me that he was saying that the person under the age of consent could get charged with rape which isn't the case.

The phrase statutory rape is a general term used to describe non-forcible sexual relations that take place when an individual (regardless of age or gender) has sexual relations with an individual not old enough to legally consent to the behavior.[1] Although it usually refers to adults engaging in sex with minors under the age of consent,[1] the age at which individuals are considered competent to give consent to sexual conduct, it is a generic term, and very few jurisdictions use the actual term "statutory rape" in the language of statutes.[2] Different jurisdictions use many different statutory terms for the crime, such as "sexual assault," "rape of a child," "corruption of a minor," "carnal knowledge of a minor," or simply "carnal knowledge." Statutory rape differs from forcible rape in that overt force or threat need not be present. The laws presume coercion, because a minor or mentally retarded adult is legally incapable of giving consent to the act.

Statutory Rape Is Illegal Sexual Activity Between Two People When It Would Otherwise Be Legal If Not For Their Age: In accordance with the FBI definition, statutory rape is characterized as non-forcible sexual intercourse with a person who is younger than the statutory age of consent.[3]

The term statutory rape generally refers to sex between an adult and a sexually mature minor past the age of puberty. Sexual relations with a prepubescent child, generically called "child molestation," is typically treated as a more serious crime.

Don't say your right till you have the evidence.

Sapphire

That says nothing about the minor being charged. I never disputed the rest of what it says.

Rutherford The Brave

Read the bold print! STATUTORY RAPE IS ILLEGAL SEXUAL ACTIVITY BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE WHEN IT WOULD BE LEGAL IF NOT FOR THEIR AGE. Like the law says its rape and they will be charged.

Read this bold print then The term statutory rape generally refers to sex between an adult and a sexually mature minor past the age of puberty.

The adult would be charged because they are the one deemed to be of an age to understand and fully consent. The minor, being younger than the age of consent, is not legally deemed old enough to consent to sex and as such wouldn't be charged.

Rutherford The Brave
July 23rd, 2008, 06:47 AM
You sir are totally ingnorant it refers to both parties! If both parties are younger than the set consent age then its rape in some states. Thus the parents can sue the family of the opposing party thus the charge of Statutory rape. My sister is a lawyer, and I have been told before I will be sued for it so don't tell me I'm wrong.

I am not totally ignorant. I was under the impression you were talking about an adult/minor sexual relationship since you used the term statutory rape. I am not wrong in what I was saying.

I doubt that if you are in a relationship with a girl and you have sex with her that she would advertise this fact to her parents so you needn't be too concerned.

Ok then, back to the point. Sex is like many things in life, complicated. People have sex at different times depending on different factors. You will probably know yourself when the perfect time to have sex arises.

A.1) Make sure your not breaking the law. This is about age of consent in Colorado. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_North_America#Colorado)
A.2) Make sure your emotionally ready.
A.3) Make sure he completely consenting(which guys usually act like they are)

B.1) Rule #1: There are no rules!

There really isn't an age. Its right to have it at either 16 or 18 after a good relationship or whatnot.

Ignore people who say "Wait till marriage" Thats crap, thats like saying dont masturbate till marriage., Sex isn't just for babies, if you use a condom and birth control its for fun.
I would suggest from age 16+, when you can do it with someone who wants to aswell.

Absolutely not. Don't ignore people. IF your faith wants you to wait or just your morals to wait until marraiage, do it. There are many people that wait until marriage to have sex with someone that they know is clean (as in no STDs), and someone they love and will spend the rest of their life with. I commend people who say they will wait. However, most men just can't do it...well men more than women.

The age that you have sex at should be based on your feelings and attraction towards the person you want to have sex with. You should also be mentally ready to have sex. If that means at 11 years old then so be it. do it when ur ready

I'd say wait until your married, don't risk having a baby until you know you an handle it...aka marriage

But since most people won't do that just wait till you think you've found the right person, (and probably at least 16 :)) and make sure your well protected
