Well this is off the wall cause school has been out for a while but.... i was just thinking.... has ur school.. or class ever debated gay marriage... and how did u react??
cause my class did a 2 on 2 debate about it and i found myself outraged hearing ppl say its a choice and its only for attention, all this so i stood up in the middle of it and started screaming...
If its a choice why would someone chose to be hated for who they loved?? why would they want that kind of attention???
i just went crazy.. and i was still in the closet.. so everyone was staring at me... but i was all red and they pulled out the bible n started saying stuff like faggs dont deserve rights and all this stuff so i had to leave the room ... hah i just told everyone i was open minded and they are just ignorant to try n cover up my outburts,...
but ya... have any of u ever dabated in school or out... and what was ur reaction...
im random so idk what i expect ppl to say... just curious... haha as i ramble...

Where was the teacher during this?
Whenever something controversial is being discussed (or worse, debated, b/c that suggests some confrontation), it's always important for there to be an objective moderator there of some authority to keep things moving along in a positive direction, and keep it 'factual', keep it safe for everyone. In your case, that didn't happen, and I'd hold the teacher responsible, it was his job here to prevent this from deteriorating into a judgemental pile on. That's not the point of the exercise.
So, my reaction to just your story is that your teacher failed to properly enforce the basic rules of civility and decency whenever a topic of any sensitivity is debated. I'd feel betrayed, exposed, and somewhat violated. And personally, I'd tell some adult about that.
School is supposed to be safe, regardless of the topic at hand, or the intent of the teacher in raising it. It should not be allowed to deteriorate into something very personal where people feel vulnerable and attacked.

I'm with IAMSAM. The teacher obviously didn't keep good enough control of the class. However, if so much of the class is so bigoted, one must consider that the teacher too may be bigoted, and thus may not have thought that what was being said was particularly out of line. Tough situation all around.
On the other hand, while what your peers were saying was bigoted and ignorant, they weren't the ones who flipped out - you were. And while I completely understand why (I probably would've been pretty angry in that situation as well) I think the most important thing for you is to try to keep calm in situations like that. When peers of yours are so indoctrinated with bigotry, getting angry and screaming isn't going to change their minds. Being reasonable and calm (as hard as it may be) will.

we've never debated this in school, but i completely agree with you. saying someone shouldn't be allowed to marry the same sex is like saying two different races can't get married. it's discrimination. they are just jealous because they wouldn't have the guts to follow their dreams.

I totally agree with that!! :D
We havent really debated it in class but My friends and I have had a little discussion about it. I think Its peoples choice or how they feel. If any 2 people are that much that they want to get married then they should be able to. Cause isnt marriage about celebrating the love 2 people have??
Thats how I've always seen it.
