View Full Version : Installing OS X From OEM CD = Easy?

Is installing OS X from an OEM disc as easy as it is for Windows? For example, when you buy a new computer with XP, it comes with an XP installation disc right? But it is very easy to use that same disc and install XP on other computers and use the same serial code every time. Is this just as easy with a Mac? I'm asking because my dad just bought a new MacBook and it came with an OS X Leopard installation CD, but I was going to buy an older, G4 iBook, for myself. So I was wondering if I could just use my dad's CD on the older iBook I plan on buying with no hassle.

Leopard is somewhat like the Vista of Mac, meaning it will likely run more slowly on an older computer, so I would reconsider even bothering.

No its not the case. Unless you have the retail version, not the one that came with the mac, it wont work. The ones that come with the Macs will not install on anything but the type of Mac it came with.

That's completely irrelevant. No matter how easy it is it will run slowly on an older system, and, according to a Mac user, you can't use that disc, anyway. For the record, the Vista installer is quite good, that might be its only strong point.

Requires a bit of complicated hacking, and usually doesn't work even then.
