I'm sure that at least half of the videos on youtube are copy righted. Perhaps even more.
I don't think that they have a right to go ahead and hand over user information. Even if the identities aren't revealed it's still an invasion of privacy.

I fail to understand why your IP address is so private. On most forums the admins can all see everyone's IP. And websites can easily find out what IP's are coming to the site. So, you can all have my IP if you want. I don't care. You can cringe over thee fact that viacom has your IP address all you want. What will they do with all those IP's? Nothing. They probably wanted tons of money from google and got stupid IP's instead lol.

Yes but this is millions and BILLIONS of IP address. Thats like billions of peoples houses. You can easily find out where someone lives from just their IP address.

Okay, billions of IP's..... they're going tot look through billions of IP's... find where you live... and what? It's viacom not the mafia. Send you junk mail? I don't see the threat besides a very greedy company named viacom.

Google always gets slack for making money off of other people's copyrights, this is no different. I'm not worried though, to me it's like big whoop
I go to youtube FOR copyrighted material :P

It's too late now, they've already got you. Might as well enjoy youtube the way it is now as you can.
All good things comes to an end first it was Napster, now this.

What will Viacom accomplish knowing what I look up on You Tube?
SirRawrsalot

Absolutely nothing. They're getting worthless information. And comments about tracking IP's to find where you live, rofl. I don't see viacom doing anything with the IP's.

From what I read on another article, Viacom is trying to determine whether commercial copyrighted material or user-generated videos are more popular.
Really, I think that Viacom should be happy that their shows are out there. Maybe someone will see a clip online, get interested, find out when it's regularly aired, and start watching on TV. It's a clash between the marketing (Really? People are watching our shows? Yes!) and law (What? People are putting clips of our shows on the Internet? Copyright infringement!) departments.
Good for NBC, Fox, and the other networks supporting Hulu.
