Recently I've been like, unusually aware of my heartbeat, and it's kind of creepy because I can just be sitting somewhere and feel it beating in my chest even if I'm not checking it (is that normal though?). I get heart palpitations sometimes, I don't know if there's really a pattern in it. It will kind of skip or flutter, usually if I'm sitting down. There was this one instance where I was just at the computer eating, pretzels or something, and without notice my heart just started racing very fast and it lasted maybe 2-3 seconds or so. I seriously thought I was having a heart attack, I got light-headed like I was going to pass out. That only happened once though. Other than that it's usually if I'm laying down. If I roll over in my bed or change position, sometimes it'll feel like my heart pauses for a second and then there will be one beat that seems to pound especially hard. It doesn't hurt or anything though.

I don't know.. I thought maybe it was my caffeine intake, but even when I limited the amount of soda I drank, I still got palpitations. They weren't as frequent, of course, but they still happened. My aunt told me that there's a history of heart conditions in my family, she has Mitral Valve Prolapse. My dad said his heart does similar things to mine, too.

Heart beats are pretty regular, so unless you've got some diagnosed condition, I'd doubt it's really 'palpitations' (irregular heart beats). i think the doc would have picked it up when he listens to your chest with the stethoscope and told you.

You can also feel your heart beating if you stop and think about it, afterall it's really the only part of your body, it's the only organ, that typically moves (alot, I might add), on a regular basis, right? So, what you might be feeling is just the normal rhythm of its beat. Likewise there are alot of reasons for lightheadedness, other than something as drastic as a serious heart ailment.

Mitral valve prolapse is a fairly common (and usually harmless) condition whereby one of the heart valves doesn't snap completely shut, it bulges out a bit when closed (normally, the valves close tightly and flatly). This sounds much freakier than it is, about 25% of the population has it, and don't require any change in lifestyle or treatment for it.

Maybe you're just worrying, maybe there's something dreadful and ominous sounding about 'family heart problems', but the chances of you having something now at 14 that the doctor missed seems slim. Still, maybe you should point out your symptoms to him the next time you see him and have him listen to your chest carefully and offer some reassurance then.

HHhmm...Well I think that happens to everyone. Like for me, I could be laying down on the couch watching a movie for like an hour, then I'll get up and start moving around again, and I'll get really lightheaded and my vision will get a little bit blurry for like 3 or 4 seconds then everything goes back to normal. I'm not sure what happens but I think I remember my dad telling me it has something to do with your blood pressure being unequal? I'll get back to you on it when I ask my dad about it again :)

i doubt it has anything to do with blood pressure. if i'm not mistaking when you lay down, or sit, for a long period of time and suddenly get up relatively fast, your blood thats accumulated in your head suddenly begins to rush down your body. when this happens, you get a light headed feel and your vision begins to blur.

Remember gravity?

Blood pressure changes based on activity level. So, when you're relaxing on the couch, lying down, your BP drops. Your body doesn't need as much of the O2 that the blood circulates, so your haeart rate and PB drop. Think of it like the gas pedal of a car when you're approaching a hill.

When you sit up suddenly, it takes a moment for you rheart rate and BR to increase, so you feel light headed, dizzy, blurry. When your heart kicks in with more BP, that goes away.

So, it's the sudden change in activity level without enough BP that causes the momentary feelings.

It sounds more like you're causing anxiety. The mind is powerful.

I have the same thing. Heart palpitations are not things that just happen, and very commonly mixed up with other ailments - like the one you have.

Your doctor would notice heart palpitations.

hi there, i am 17 and i am a competitive athlete. even though i exercise regularly and is in gud shape, i had a cardiac arrrest last year at school. since the incident i have discoverd that i have a heart condition which i inherited from my mum. I think it is common for me to have these heart palpitations but however, in ur case, i highly doubt that it is heart palpitations.I just think you r overworried about it. this is in my personal opinion. also, like others have said, a doctor would have picked it up, even though mine didnt.
