The fact that people are still requesting new systems to have XP installed rather than vista must be sending a message to microsoft saying "hey, people hate vista, lets force it upon them"

Why do you think I switched to linux?

That's not good. I wanted to get a new system with XP OS on it. Vista is just well....

You can't really be mad because eventually they would have done it anyway.

Well considering XP is the most popular operating system in the world...
I don't know. I think they should have made it available for purchase but already preinstalled into computers.

Microsoft to stop selling Windows XP on Monday

REDMOND, Wash. (AP) — Microsoft Corp. is scheduled to stop selling its Windows XP operating system to retailers and major computer makers Monday, despite protests from a slice of PC users who don't want to be forced into using XP's successor, Vista.

Once computers loaded with XP have been cleared from the inventory of PC makers such as Dell Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co., consumers who can't live without the old operating system on their new machine will have to buy Vista Ultimate or Vista Business and then legally "downgrade" to XP.

Microsoft will still allow smaller mom-and-pop PC builder shops to buy XP for resale through the end of January. A version of XP will also remain available for ultra-low-cost PCs such as the Asus Eee PC.

A group of vocal computer users who rallied around a "Save XP" petition posted on the industry news site InfoWorld had been clamoring for Microsoft to keep selling XP until its next operating system, Windows 7, is available. The software maker has said it expects to release Windows 7 sometime in 2009.

Last week, Microsoft said it would provide full technical support for six-year-old Windows XP through 2009, and limited support through 2014.

I think that microsoft is going down the tubes. Because Vista sucks Im being honest, so getting rid of XP may cost them business

I don't know, there aren't many companies with other OS that you can choose from that are anything like XP. Its just to force it on people to use Vista. I mean you could still use XP you just wouldn't be getting updates and whatnot.

Vista is awful.

You will still be able to download XP from warez/torrents, and many people have it on disk anyway, there's pleanty of cracks out there.

XP wont die that easy.

I have heard many a story about why Vista sucks. I admit, it DOES have its problems, but I still prefer it over XP. Maybe that is just me xD

I thought that vista sucked also, but i think it's better than xp, now that I'm used to it. It makes a lot more sense in my opinion. Thats just my opinion though.

If Microsoft don't make a good job of Windows 7, they are screwed.

I've used Vista on and off since it was released, I'd never install it to my computer ever again though.

It's slow, hard to use (for more advanced thigns) and I just don't like it.

Nothing wrong with XP, It's secure and fast, and it works.

It looks cool on high definition, apart from that its sh*t

I've got vista installed as second op system on this computer so if the time comes I need to switch, I can easily switch. But I aint planning on giving in for a while.

Well im pretty sure you can still buy an OEM copy of xp, so if you don't mind building your computer(or installing another operating system) you can still have the superior operating system. I'm probably never gonna use vista, ill just wait for windows 7.

I used to have XP, Vista and Ubuntu on my laptop, I only ever used XP so I reformatted with XP only :)

My desktop is a dual boot ubuntu 8.04 (the 64 bit version :D) and it was vista but I hated it so I got XP, but it has such a small percentage of the hard drive. I only use it for the few programs I need like...word.... and...that's about it.

I have a dual boot of Ubuntu (hardy heron of course) and vista. I only use vista in times of great need (whenever I feel the need to play the orange box...once wine supports portal I'll be off!)
