I think it would be super cool if we can see who people referred. For instance I have 3 referrals and I have NO idea who they are to be quite honest. And for the poeple that have alot of them it may be fun to see so who people referred. What do you all think?

Though I have no referrals, I agree with you 100%. It seems rather logical that one should be able to see who they referred, and being able to see who others referred would be interesting too.

Interesting, yeah. The thread hasn't even been up for a full day.

I don't think it's an option in vB. While vB has a lot of options, there isn't much to customize for the referral system. The option is to enable the referral system or not. Even in the admin panel, we can't search specifically for who referred whom. It's a date range search. If anyone wants to know who their referrals are, let me know.

Fun? O_o? I would prefer the referral system to be turned off instead. I just don't see a purpose in it and people can get referrals from others they don't even know (I asked Alex who my referral was, and I do not know who that person is)

But whatever, it's fine how it is.

I disagree. I think it should remain on because I feel that if you referred someone you have contibuted to the site, and I feel contributions to the site should be publicized in slight ways like putting a little indescreet number in your profile. I would just like to expand that whole system so you can see who you and other people referred. That is it.

Anyways Francis can you tell me who my people are :)
Thanks

What is a referral anyway? I mean the definition of the word can be good or bad, or neutral. How is it used on VT? I always thought you got a referral when you got in trouble?

Oh i get it. How do you refer someone?

ok dude calm down.

What is a referral anyway?...How do you refer someone?
A referral is a member that you invited to the site.
Each new member has the option of typing in the username of the member who brought/invited/showed them the site. If somebody types in your name, you get 1 referral, and the number grows based on how many people type in your name.

So naturally, to get your referrals up, you invite people to the site and tell them to type in your username on the register page.

I agree with Zach on this issue. It's not really all that important. If it's somebody you know, you should know they joined. And if you really want to show it off that bad put it in your sig or something.

ok dude calm down.

I wasn't mad I promise :(

Anyways, for instance. Francis PMed my referrals to me (I never knew that admins could even view them) and I only know 2/3 people. So it was fun for me to be able to see who I brought to this site. For those three people to take the time to write my username in that little box during registration becuase they feel that this site was something good enough to join and then to also know that I was a "main" person who influenced them to do it.

So some may say its a stupid system but I like it. Also, there really isn't a huge problem to it. Its stupid to be competitive about it so I don't think that that would be an issue.

Ohhhh OK been along time since i joined (:

Anyway, I agree with Zach. If they know enough to type in your username, then you should know who they are.

Sometimes people come up with TOTALLY different names. For instance I can talk to someone named...John and they can sign up as Artic Fox and never tell me they joined and never ever like contact me or tell me. So yeah you don't know who everyone is all the time.

I mean if you told someone about VT i assume you know you told them? :P

Francis just said he has no problem telling people who their referrals are so telling people "they should already know" is a pointless point.

Wow, a "pointless point"... interesting point. Anyways, I think that it should be an option to view who they are (it's too bad it isn't). I doubt I'll ever get one anyways lol.

BTW, ...what does getting multiple referrals do for you? Anything at all? Or is it just there for the heck of it?

It does nothing for you. You do not get anything special. No, it is not tied up into the rep system. In my opinion, it just shows how many people thought of you when they registered. I think that people really don't notice it all too much either so it is not bragging rights either.
So no referrals don't really do anything physically for you.
...well more virtually...

Thanks. That cleared that up. So, it almost doesn't really matter who referred you since it does nothing lol unless you're extremely curious.

Well I think there is a difference in some people. Some people may want to not even care about it because it does nothing for them or their accounts. I personally just want to see who thought about me during registration.
