so i was reading some posts and hemp was mentioned and it reminded me of my feelings on the plant, here goes:
Industrial Hemp is different from Cannabis (marijuana, weed, pot, etc) not in the plant but its uses and principles. Industrial hemp contains such minute quantities of THC that you just can't get high off it, you could smoke a pound of it and it would do nothing, just give u a bad headache from all the smoke. however, there are so many benefits of industrial hemp that it seems idiotic that the US wont allow it for federal use. FYI, in the 1700's it was ILLEGAL to NOT grow hemp because it was such a commodity. The first copy of the declaration of independence was on hemp paper because its just what was used (smart) and the founding fathers were all hemp growers because the plant is just so useful.
-Hemp is a renewable crop that is ready for harvest just around 120 days after seed as apposed to trees that take hundreds of years to be ready and then are just gone. At the same time, hemp creates better paper and produces 4x as much pulp for paper per acre as trees do.
-Hemp seeds are considered to be the most "naturally complete" foods in the world. They contain all the essential amino acids while most other foods contain all but a few. They contain great protein and are obviously vegetarian and vegan friendly and part of a good diet (or would be if they were more widely produced)
-Hemp fibers can be used to create all the clothes that cotton can, is a regrowing crop and doesnt destroy the soil like cotton does (in history farmers have had to plant alternate crops after cotton to replenish the soils nutrients that cotton soaks up. farmers have forgotten to do so and "dried up" the soil making it useless. hemp doesnt do this, creating year after year of fibers for clothing to be produced)
-Hemp can be used to produce ethanol which is an alternative to gasoline in cars. ethanol produces incredibly less carbon dioxide and almost none of the other polltants that come from gasoline, and if grown for fuel would also lift much of the expensive ties to the middle east for oil. as for ethanol, hemp produces 4x more ethanol than corn using the same equipment, so it would be more cost effective.
-Hemp oil can also be used to produce plastic as an alternative to oil products such as petrolium that also burn toxic and produce tons of pollutants in their production

Hemp has tons more uses, these are just a few. It seems the fact is at least at the moment that the governemtn just doesnt want to invenst the time to research the effective ways to use hemp and it goes to show how conservative views cannot move on from a plant being associated with drug use and realize that this plant cannot be used for this but for many other benefits. I personally beleive that if the US started to industrialize hemp that it would boost the economy like crazy (anything would now, i just received a check from the US Treasury, an "economic stimulus" check basically to get us spending more money, great idea George Bush, put more money into the economy, that willl solve the problem, self-inflation hasnt hurt any econmy in history....oh wait, no it hurt every one of them). Any ideas?

Amen, Jello Biafra does an amazing talk about this!

AND the government doesn't want to use iut just because that means a lot of companies will loose money, meaning bush's already rich friends.
