I was helping my dad with stuff for the pool today. We are laying stuff, sort of a padding/fake grass around it. He was cutting some of it with a razor blade. I was holding it, so he could cut in a straight line. He ended up cutting me, on accident. I didn't realize I was bleeding until he started swearing and I looked at my hand. I ran into the house, and turned on some cold water. The cut isn't that big, but there was a lot of blood surprisingly. I ran cold water over it, and then applied some pressure to it. It took about 10 minutes to stop bleeding, and after that I managed to make it bleed again. It stopped, and I put hydrogen peroxide on it, and then a band-aid. Over the band-aid, I have some white tape like stuff, it sticks to itself not to skin, just to keep the band-aid on, because it is in such an awkward spot.
How often should I be changing the band-aid? I would like for it to heal as quickly as possible. After today, I probably don't need the white tape over it, I just needed it to stay on so I could continue helping my dad. We don't have any Neosporin in the house at the moment, but I could get some tomorrow. Should I?
I would really like to keep a band-aid on it at all times for right now, so I don't get dirt or anything else in it. Once it's actually closed well enough, I probably won't wear anything on it at all.

You should most definitely go to the doctor. You may need stitches. And if you don't, they will tell you what to do.
If you cant get to a doctor, wrap it up in gauze or keep it in a band aid until it stops bleeding. If it seems fine, try to keep it in the open because it will heal faster. Also, if you can, get Neosporin because it will help a lot.
Edit: Also, if it doesn't close up soon, go to the doctor if you hadn't already.

I think I may have made something kind of unclear. It stopped bleeding, like 10 or 15 minutes after it happened. I talked to my grandfather, who is a doctor, and he said I probably don't need stitches. I just changed the bandage, it started to fall off, and there was blood on it. I poured some more hydrogen peroxide over it. It stung when I did that. I'm getting Neosporin tomorrow, my mom doesn't have to go back into town tonight, and the store isn't open.

keep it nice and clean. Change the plaster frequently, and deffinately used some polysporin. Also, make sure to air it once in a while when you arent using it rigerously

if its deep then go get stitches
if its medium put steri-strips on it (butterflys) then gauze
if its minor then a bandaid (i doubt unless you have a clotting problem)
Make sure it stays clean with either rubbing alcohol or peroxide or if you have allot of ballz iodine
then put some polysporin on it and a sterilized pad over top and i would suggest vet wrap
its like gauze but it sticks to itself so you don't need to wrap it all around then try and tape it
I use it all the time different colours and sizes you get it at a veterinarians

Well, if it's a deep cut (take a deep breath and look at it), then you would necessarily need stitches.
H202 (hydrogen peroxide, I'm showing off), really doesn't do anything except exfoliate (wash away) the skin cells that are required to heal the wound, so quit doing it.
In general, if the cut is in an awkward place (i.e. friction areas, or areas that are difficult to keep clean), then you should put neosporin on and keep it covered. The neosporin prevents infection, and the band aid prevents it from getting dirty or whacked open.
If it's in an area that's 'safe' from all that, it's better to keep it exposed, as the air prevents the moisture from building up, which is fertile breeding ground for bacteria and other nasties.

Well I guess you learn something new everyday. I didn't know that hydrogen peroxide exfoliated the skin cells. Thanks.
The cut is right where my index finger meets my palm. On my palm though. It kinda hurts to bend my finger. It hurts when I touch the band-aid too, but all this is expected.
I've concluded that I don't need stitches. It really isn't all that deep, it just seems it. I took a look, and it's not that deep at all.

Ah, always glad to add to someone's knowledge base!
Since it's on the bottom of your hand, Autumn, you might want to get the Neosporin and put a band aid on it, at least during the daytime hours.
The pain would suggest it was a nasty cut, though. Ouch!
