Hey guys, quick question. What age do you think it's acceptable to start looking at porn? It makes masturbation more fun. I feel comfortable watching it, what does everyone else think.

i think whenever you think you're ready to dive into the world of sex and porn, and you need to get your sexual pleasures out. but still not at a horribly young age, probably like starting around 12-13.

Porn is not legal until you're 18 for a reason: The assumption is that by 18, you've had enough real world experience (and maturity) to realize that what's being shown in porn is entertainment, it's NOT educational or necessarily 'factual'. That means that the stuff that's shown, the way they relate to eachother, the way it's done, the noises, sizes, etc., are all recognized as not necessarily accurate, that's what makes it entertaining for those who enjoy it. It's more fantasy than reality. Young 'uns don't have the frame of reference that comes from experience to recognize this, so it can instill ideas or expectations that are later unfulfilled.

So the answer to the OP's q, is that you're ready when you have the maturity and the experience to know what it is you're looking at and what it means. There's no real age to determine that, it's more about life than age.

That's a hard question to answer. I'm not sure that porn is necessarily ever good for some people. Basically to view porn, I think there are two requirements:

1. An ability to realize that what you're seeing is in no way representative of actual, meaningful sex (especially the misogynist stuff)

2. Self-control to avoid becoming reliant on porn to get aroused, or to avoid spending lots of time with porn.

I think it's generally a good idea to avoid porn if you can, because it's very hard to tell who fits into (2). An addictive personality is not always something that's obvious. But in general, I agree with Sam. There's no one age.
