Is it possible to add Google Instant Messaging to the list of Instant Messenger fields in the profile?

I think its not really necessary since theres hardly any members that use it.

I reckon admin would need to find out if there is enough members who use it in order to bother creating it

Actually that is a vB default. I am not really sure if they can add more.
I dont remember seeing it but maybe there is a hack somewhere out there that can add more.

Yes, I use it. Even my brother uses it. The number of people that use it is growing.

I was thinking about adding it a while ago, but I think it would require quite a bit of modifying. I'll see what I can do when I have a reliable source of internet (which might take a good bit of time).
