I know kinda stupid post, but I drink like a can or two of Mountain Dew and/or Pepsi a day. I'm not very active. But I'm still "in shape." I can run fast, long, I'm not fat... I'm not skinny but in no way fat. I told my mom to stop buying soda cause I drink too much of it and I am going to start drinking Milk and water, but will that actually make a difference in health or body fat or anything like that?

It's probalby not going to be a huge chance...but cutting out sugary drinks like that can make little changes.

Milk helps build strong bones. So Im guessing its a good change.

Yup, just the small changes. But it's the small changes that add up over time :)

Exactly. Coke, pop, whatever you call it, is one of those things that even the "low calorie" or "diet" versions are unhealthy.

Well then i guess it's a good thing I am staying off them. At least for a bit. I'll still drink it every now and then, but not like I do now. OMG, ramen noodles are horrible for you!!! They have like 2000 grams of salt in one package! lol Just random fact there :P

Yeah, you have to indulge everyonce in a while. Infact that might be an easy way to get off of it. Try only having one a week for a few weeks. Then one every two weeks for some time. One a month for a few months. And poof, it's gone.

Ramen noodles are awesome :P

if you drink sodas all the time, that is not a good, healthy choice. Incorporating milk, orange juice, water, etc will improve your health by giving you vitamins, minerals, etc.
The way you were doing it, it was a little excessive, although I usually have 1 or 2 cans of soda a month, so I might be a little biased :P Soft drinks are expensive too, so 1 or 2 a day is a lot in that frame of mind.

Milk also has calcium that will build strong bones. And soft drinks contain phosphorus, which can contribute to bone loss. Ever seen that poster, "15% of your height is added as a teen and milk helps"? Well, it's true, and since it helps build strong bones, it may help you grow taller than you would if you didn't drink milk.

Switching to milk and water instead of having sodas is a great choice. You have NO idea how much drinking a ton of water has on your endurance and physical performance. I drank a bottle of water the night before and the morning before I went to school one day, and I ran a lap that was the easiest in my entire life.
Next day I didn't drink the water, and that lap was harder.

So yes, switching from 2 sodas a day to milk, orange juice, and water will definitely improve your health, or at least be a lot better for your body.

But, don't be surprised if you have diarrhea if you drink a lot of milk, because you may be lactose intolerant. That ok, just find a medium that works for you. And if you don't want to drink milk, try buying an orange juice that has added calcium instead. That's what I do

Sorry for the long post

Oh I know I'm not lactose intolarent. I love milk soda is just easier to get :P And as for that height statement, I'm 16 in a week or two and I am 6'5! :D And Ramen Noodles ARE awesome but they unhealthy, but I think those are one of things I won't be able to stop eating! :D Oh and don't worry bout long posts I love reading :)

Good for you... you're tall... I'm not so lucky.

Calcium isn't just needed for bone growth and height. You'll need to keep it up for bone density, among other things, too. Vitamin D, which is frequently added to milk, helps the body absorb calcium.

Yup. My entire family is tall. My mom is 5'11. lol But like I said, I love milk just gettin a soda can is soo much easier. But I figure if I'm not gonna go and run or weight lift or something, might as well do SOMETHING! lol

oh yes! i cut soda out as well, and drink water, tea and soy milk only.. i feel so less dragged down, it's because you are ridding alot of the high fructose corn syrup in soda, usually.

I stopped drinking pop recently. My mom buys it and when I go out to a resturant I usually just get water. Dude you'll feel so much better though, pop kinda feels weird going down my throat, but it also makes you bloated and most have 200 empty calories. You can drink juice, I drink a lot of minute maid which has anti-oxidants and such.

I don't drink soda, coffee, and energy drinks (red bull ect.) mainly becuase they are all horrible for your teeth, and more than anything I value my teeth.

Everything in moderation.

Soda tastes good, but has stuff in it that you don't need in excess, like sugar or caffeine and some of the chemicals I cannot pronounce. And eventhough you might not notice a weight change drinking them, you're still putting stuff into your body it doesnlt need or appreciate.

If you drink lots of milk, make sure its non fat. The fat in regular, skim, or even 1%/2% is unnecessary and can be unhealthy. Organic milk is the best, as it doesn't have hormones in it used to increase milk production in the cow(you already have enough of your own!).

In the end, though, plain 'ol H2O is really the best thing to put in your body, it's what it really needs, when it's thirsty it want water, not Mountain Dew or milk or juice. It might not taste as good, but it's only in your mouth for a moment, anyway.

Lol my mom never buys soda >.< But I usually drink a mountain dew code red or baja blast when I either buy one from the gas station or eat taco bell which is like maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks. Only thing I have in my house is water from the fridge, orange juice, and milk. So I just drink lots of water everyday lol Doesn't seem to affect me at all

Well soda is yummy, but when you have something like a gooey warm brownie, milk and ONLY milk goes good with it, soda is good with a sand which, you know something salty and savory :D

Yup. Water is only good by itself lol. And energy drinks are a big no no for me. lol I drink them VERY often. Like I had a little bit of a can today because it was my friends party. Got home and got milk though :P
