How would she know they don't fit, where's that coming from? Either she knows something here about you, or she's got some of her own issues with this.
CALMLY, Gwyn, ask her how she knows this, and try to CALMLY (as in calmly, don't accuse her of being nuts, this is not the time to share your feelings with her!) find out what her concerns are and CALMLY address those concerns. Do NOT share those feelings, when dealing with people who are either 'nuts' or behaving irrationally, it's best to be calm when addressing their concerns so that they are not distracted by your reaction. That way, you sorta shine a light on their unreasonableness.

Please don't swear at me.
Unless you have some congenital malformation, then tampon use shouldn't be a problem.

Tampons come in tiny sizes anyway.

Sometimes, when you're young, your vagina is too tight to use regular size tampons comfortably (because your body is smaller). However, they do make "slimfit" tampons, which are skinnier and designed for teens and smaller women. A regular tampons ia about as big around as your index finger or your thumb (depending on how big your fingers are), and a slimfit tampon is more between your index finger and your pinkie. They don't absorb as much, since they aren't as big, so if you try those (or any tampons, really) make sure to also wear a pad or a pantyliner at first until you know how often you'll need to change them (it's good to wear a pantyliner anyways, in case of the occasional leak, or if you can't get to a bathroom when you need to). However, you may not even need the smaller ones. I remember getting my period at age 10, and my mom bought me some slimfits, and I bled all over everything. I actually ended up using super size tampons later that year with no problems.
So, just ask your mom why she doesn't think they'll fit. She'll probably tell you something similar to what I said. Then explain to her that they do make slimmer tampons and you'd like to give them a try, just to see. Don't say anything like, "Well, you're wrong," or anything criticizing her, it'll make her less likely to do what you want. Just respect her opinion as your mother and a woman who's gone though this, and just ask to try this. If it helps, explain that it's summer and you can't really swim with a pad (unless you wear shorts over your suit, but even then it soaks up the water and can't really absorb any blood). Maybe that will push her along a bit.

Just to add to what people have said, remember to always use the lowest possible absorbency for your flow!

Sorry, but I dont understand what this has to do with tampon sizes. Your mom may be over-protective, but she may be right about tampon sizes.

Tampons should fit lol.
Like the post above use the lowest absorbency for your flow because tampons are related to TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome).
If you need slender ones, buy them then work your way up until your comfortable with regular I guess.
So ye, your being lied to.

Yeah she might be more on the over=protective side (you even said she was manipulative). Well think about it; when you're fully grown (I'm talking mid-twenties) you're body is designed to have a BABY through there! So a tiny tampon shouldn't be a problem; if she's saying this to you then you'd never be able to have sex, since tampons are a lot smaller than a penis!

i agree with talking to her about it, and figuring out why she would say something like that

i agree. i think the best thing for you to do is lay in front of a mirror and see if the kind of tampons your mom uses will fit. you should carefully place the cotton part outside of your vaginal opening to see if you could slide it in with ease, but don't shove it in right away. if the opening is to small it will hurt.

The opening stretches a lot (babies come out of there!), so don't rely on just looking to see if it will fit. The vaginal opening can stretch quite a ways before it starts to really cause any pain. A tampon is likely to be uncomfortable the first time you use it (because (a)you're not used to it and (b)you may not be pushing it in all the way, as a lot of girls are afraid that it will get stuck or something), but it shouldn't hurt to put it in. Use your fingers to pull the lips out of the way (because that may pinch a bit, if you try to push those in along with the tampon) and then just go for it. You'll be fine.

Another warning.... Don't practise using tampons when you're not having your period!
- Relates back to the TSS thing.

ok i have a great idea... make her sit down and read this whole thread. she will get differant ideas without any stress being put on you.
ask at a gynocologist or however you sayit if there is any malfunction possible so that tampons dont fit. maybe your mom has it and never questioned it.
well that would be slightly impossible since she had you unless you were addopted. =/
well just try doing what i said and you should have posotive results.. if not just go buy your own =)
