Are you pro or con Israel?

America needs to say "Fuck Israel". I don't have a particular dislike for Israel, but protecting them isn't our job. I really don't give a shit because we need to solve our own problems and stop trying to police the world.

^^ Agreed.

Protecting them definitely isn't our job,
They need to pony up to the plate and fix their own problems.
Everytime the US agrees to help anywhere,
We become the bad guy because 'it's not good enough'.

i think all NATO countries need to police the world, as we have the responsibilty to protect them. The US and UK as UNSC members are obligied to protect world security. Israel does pull its own weight with american help, and if the US stop helping Israel how can it support democracy. by helping middle eastern democracies we show that democracy no despotism is the way forward

We have so many problems here in America why the hell should we try to fix others if we can't fix ourselves.

We don't have the resources to fix our own problems. How can you say it's our job to fix the world's problems?

I think israel can take of themselves. If they need asistance they can ask but I think that we've done enough for a while. I agree that we should stop trying to police the world. we should only help if they ask I'm jewish so I'm stuck but I'm always wondering why the people who oppose israel and israel just can't get along.

but why does Israel even exist in the middle east?
at the time they said that the jews had experienced a horrible holocaust at the hands of Nazi Germany and they needed there own homeland

so why was a chunk of Palestine taken forcefully and given to them?
why didn't they get a chunk of Germany?

And if its all about supporting democracy in the middle east why does Israel treat Palestine like shit because they don't agree with the democratically elected government they have?

Israel is a beacon of hope in the Middle East, by Middle Eastern standards. It is not perfect, but it is worth encouraging. However, I do think we coddle Israel too much. In simple terms, I think we should remain friendly but scale back involvement.

well, it's really not about helping the jewish people for our country's purpose or any political reason. a lot of it is religious. Conservatives, who are almost always christians, know that god judges us on how we treat jewish people. It's not really like conservatives to be illogical and waste money for the sake of wasting money if they didn't really believe it had a legit purpose (one of the things i do like about republicans). i don't particularly give a fuck about helping the jews, but it's respectable for our nation to stand strong upon the religion that we we hold so highly...even at the cost it may hold.

Because that is the reason this discussion really shouldn't need to happen; separation of church and state.

I'm pro Israel. But I agree with the user "0=", we should act more like a big brother to Israel, rather than a full on Father. If you get my meaning.

Nobodys answered my question yet
does anyone know WHY Israel took a chunk of Palestine rather than a chunk of Germany?
because the whole "reason" for its creation was to give the jews a homeland of their own after the nazi crimes

we both know that is neglected..and it makes sense as to why it is. our nation is over 3/4ths Christian.

edit: cody, i googled your question and couldn't get a great answer but it dos sound like a heavy number of jews immigrated to palestine (opposed to germany). this may explain it.

I tend to avoid provocation for provocation's sake, esp. when there are religious overtones to it, but this topic keeps popping up when I look for new posts, and I'm stuck in the house with this really bad cold, so I've got all the time in the world today, hopefully that will keep my mind occupied, because Sam no like boredom and confinement.

OK. To answer Kodie's last question, the Jews are in the middle east because they've always been there, it is their ancestral homeland. There is no dispute about that, it's a historical fact.

They were prevented to return historically b/c the British ruled Palestine when they had that Empire of theirs. So, the question really isn't why the Jews are there, the bigger question is why they've been historically prevented from being there in even bigger numbers. This also includes the period of time when all the Europeans slaughtered the Jews just b/c they weren't Christian, eventhough the original Christian was in fact Jewish. But that's another Rambling, I suppose.

OK, since we're into history here as an accurate provider of truth, the UN established the state of Israel in '48, with a clear understanding of the issue of the other native people, the Palestinians. The Mandate clearly called for the land to be evenly split, 50%-50% between the Jews for their Israel, and Palestine for the Palestinians. The Palestinians, in one of history's biggest tactical blunders, rejected this offer, and declared war. The rest is history.

Living in NYC, where 1:3 people are Jewish, I hear alot about this subject, and I am always impressed about the passion of the Jewish people about Israel. But I'm also impressed by their open mindedness and fairness in wanting a just solution to the ongoing tragedy over there.

I like the idea of open dialogue, even when it's about something as controversial as politics and religion, even when the 2 are enmeshed, like the situation in the Holy Land. However, I think it's important to always have an accurate grasp of the historical facts before jumping to conclusions, b/c the last thing that's needed in controversy is the insertion of more controversy caused by misinformation.

Personally, I think that American in itself needs to stop invading in other countries affairs. Seriously its pointless, we only made the situation in Iraq worse by getting invovled. If we keep doing this countries are going to lose the ability to handle issues on their own, as well as things such as drafts, death, and overall econamy issues to deal with if we did. I'm not saying that we shouldn't support isreal after all they have been fighting for ages over religious ideals. Still, we can't continue incading everything eventually we will lose the ability to and our presence in the nations may stir even more conflicts which we don't want. So I say support them but at a safe distance or I'll probably move to Europe.

I am against Israel. The state was created as a Jewish homeland, in a place inhabited by a Muslim, Arab majority. The Israeli government is building barriers that have harmed the economic well being of Palestinians in both the Gaza Strip and West Bank, and are obvious tools of apartheid.

The main point is that Israel was found as a homeland for... what? Ethnic Jews or adherents to the religion of Judaism? A nation existing solely for the benefit of a single ethnic group is racist and should be destroyed by anyone's standards. A nation existing for only people of a certain religion is a theocracy, and should at the very least not be supported by the United States of America, or any other secular government, for that matter.
