Can you catch anything from oral sex?

MoveAlong
June 20th, 2008, 06:23 PM
Receiving oral sex (being sucked) or giving oral sex?

assuming you're a guy,
Giving oral sex = yes, completely
Receiving = -edited, corrected by IAMSAM-

Uh, oh, I hate to disagree with my good friend Zach here, but oral sex is arisky, regardless if you're the giver or receipient (*Braces self for inevitable blow back form Flex*).

Anytime fluids are exchanged between 2 people there's a chance for infection if one has an STD. Period. The risk is there if there's an infection. Period. Who's getting and who's giving is irrelevant, if one has an infection. Period.

As an FYI, 1:5 sexually active teens 18 and under has herpes, for example. Highly contagious, and currently the #1 STD.

*Gets out from under bunker*

gee, that was easy, Rep +!!

Yes, as an additional FYI, herpes is from hell. It doesn't get as much air time as AIDS, but it is far more common, and you're far more likely to encounter it. It results from a virus that lives in the nerve cells, and produces angry, open blister like lesions when active. And, although it's not fatal, it lasts forever as there's no cure.

beware.

Including mutual masturbation?

You can get an STD whenever you swap fluids with someone, so oral sex is included.

And like Kerry said, use protection! If your gonna have oral sex use a condom (on a penis or a tongue) after all, that's what flavoured condoms are for.

can someone be a carrier of the disease like in their genes of something. The guy I'm doing it with dosn't seem to have herpes (physical symptomes) but if hes a carrier im just as much at risk, right?

There is a reason why they call them Sexually Transmitted Diseases. He can only get herpes if he had sex with someone who has it.

mutual masturbation is not sex, it is masturbation.

There is a reason why they call them Sexually Transmitted Diseases. He can only get herpes if he had sex with someone who has it.

In short, oral sex is sex and is just as dangerous as sex.

Well actually it is possible to get a STD from Mutual Masturbation if your partner has one and you get his or her juices on your private parts.

ON your private parts? Most likely IN the body or ON a mucus membrane, and if you get vaginal juices on your shaft, it's probably not going to do anything unless you have a cut. Although you're statement is partially true, it's not completely true.

STDs are called SEXUALLY transmitted diseases, but they're not just transferred through sex. See = uncleaned syringes. So even if it's not sexual, it can still be dangerous.

In my opinion, masturbation, even with a partner, is not sex. It's my opinion and what is or isn't sex and what is or what is not virginity or sexual orientation etc is purely based on situation and opinion.

Well, if infected, herpes is always there, it's just not always 'active'. New research suggests that eventhough the open blister like eruptions that characterize 'active' herpes might NOT be present, the person is still able to transmit the disease. Is that what you mean by 'carrier'?

If someone has herpes, if they've been diagnosed, then any unprotected sexual activity is potentially high risk. Be careful, regardless if there are any symptoms. it's not about symptoms, it's about the diagnosis. If they have the diagnosis, the risk is high.

Well I'm almost positive he hasn't had sex and I havn't seen any symptoms of herpes. I was just not sure if it could be herediatay.

Not everyone who has herpes will show signs of symptoms, but they have the virus, which can spread at anytime (the drug Valtrex is advertised on TV all the time. I think SNL parodied the commercial once) in their body. It also depends on where the virus is hiding out. The oral herpes virus (HSV-1) will go to the nerves in the jaw beneath the ear, while the genital herpes virus (HSV-2) will go to the nerves in the lower back, and both have the potential to cause blisters at any time.

The virus is not hereditary. It's spread from person-to-person. Even if he hasn't had sex, he can still have the virus ["Because the virus is highly contagious, most people have been infected by at least 1 herpes subtype before adulthood" and "Mouth sores most commonly occur in children aged 1-2 years" (from: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/oral-herpes)]

...Do you know for sure that the person, that you're going to indulge in oral sex with, has an STI? It's just that there is a possibility that they don't... (Although, I'd still recommend being protected, just in case)

I hate to throw cold H2O on this, but if you're not sure if your partner has an STD, why are you being intimate with them?

People who are infected know they are, and decent people not only tell their partners, they protect them. If you're not close enough to trust that the person you're doing this with is honest and caring enough, and you're too embarassed to ask them, what are you doing with them in the first place?

if he is in fact a vergin then it is really unlikly he has any type of std but it is possible, and it is also possicble he could have one and not know so he doent nessisarilly have to be lying if he had one and doesnt tell you. here is what you should do to protect yourself
USE A CONDOM!!!!!! they are not hard to find you can buy them from any store.

Condoms are good. But if you want to try the other way around get a dental dam. :)

LateForTheSky
June 25th, 2008, 10:21 AM
Well he hasn't told me he has one and we were talking about getting intimate so I don't think he has one. I'm just worried because you never know.

Axellance

then make shure you get protection, even though it is likely he doesnt have s std its always better to be safe, and it always helps to have them around if in the heat of the moment you want to go all the way that way you wont end up pregnent.

I don't think mutual masturbation is a form of sex... But I'm not 100% sue
