First: Its an iPod Touch. Not an iTouch. Sorry, that just offends me.
Second: iPod touch fans has a great guide to jailbreaking.

Third: It has MANY advantages, just look around that forum and you will see. ;)

I havent jailbroken. I dont plan on it.
The advantage is that you can get the apps downloaded onto your iPod. So they are actually there and not web apps. The disadvantage is that it automatically voids the warranty and if you have any issue and the person sees that it is jailbroken they basically won't even talk to you :(
I paid the 20 bucks for the other apps and I am so glad I did. They work awesomely and I am happy that I have my iPod Touch. Mail is sooo convienent its liekt he best. So umm yeah, I want to learn more about the $10 firmware upgrade but I can't find anything on it. I want to know what its all about.
Also, has anyone heard about the price dropping to $150?

You can push "restore" in itunes and it goes back to stock condition (with your songs etc...) So if you have any problems there you go good as new. Who would know hat you voided your warranty? You cant tell.

Exactly.
I didn't do it straight away because it was all new and not many people had done it. So I waited to make sure there were no horror stories of thousands of iPods being bricked by doing it.
