Try shaving right after a hot shower. Use a cream if you get excessive razor burn, shave with the direction of the hair, and don't apply too much pressure. You may also want to consider a razor with more blades so the force is spread over a larger blade area.

Well, think about what you're doing. You're taking a razor (veeeery sharp), and scraping it against a veeeery delicate part of your body. The resulting friction causes the burn, it's an irritation.
There's not much you can do to prevent this, hot showers and lots of cream not withstanding, the problem is the friction + sensitive skin. If you absolutely must do this (why, i've never figured out), then maybe an electric razor. And a lot of Vaseline lotion afterwards.
But, if someone would explain why anyone would voluntarily make themselves look five again, i'd appreciate it.

I beg to differ. Still if your thinking of shaving down there why not try some lotion because that usaully deals with irratation.

Here's what I do when I shave.
I typically do it in the bath, but don't do it right after entering your shower/bath. Take a bath or shower (whichever you do) of moderate time to get the skin softer.
After that, I suggest using conditioner instead of shaving cream. Always make sure to trim your pubes before shaving, and use a razor with many blades. Utilize minimum pressure on the blade and shave against the grain.
The conditioner gets you a nice, smooth shave.
If you start to bleed, just run your crotch under water for a while... Unless it's profusely bleeding, in which case you should apply first aid or get medical help. Which I don't think has ever happened to anyone who isn't completely retarded.
Afterwards when you've stopped the bleeding that will inevitably happen (I always get a few cuts when shaving) apply some skin lotion. After the skin lotion, just get some anti-bacterial cream (neosporin, bacitracin) and put it on any cuts or razor burns.
You will get razor burn your first couple of shavings. Shave once every week, and every time afterwards it will be smoother with less razor burn.
