Well, I'm trying to take a desktop screen shot but for some reason when I go into paint and try to paste the shot I took, the paste option won't highlight itself.

What's wrong?

Make sure that the button is working first, download something like this (http://www.passmark.com/products/keytest.htm) and you can see.

Ok. I tested the key and it says that it's working just fine. I tried to do the screen shot again but the same problem is happening.

Have you tried restarting? Ususally fixes things like that.

Could it possibly be the scroll lock.

Shift+Print Scr
Open paint
Make sure to have it on the top right button - http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k258/pr3d4d3r/7-2.jpg cause sometimes it doesn't work for me when I don't have that selected for some reason lol
control+v

If that doesn't work then I'm not sure whats wrong :P

I'm pressing the "PrnScn/ SysRq" button. Isn't that the right one?

yes it is, are you going to "Edit" and then clicking on "paste"??? Or try this: open up paint, and press "Ctrl + V"
