A 16-year-old boy may have been lying on the road before he was struck by a car and killed in a hit-and-run incident in Sydney's southwest, police say.

The teenager was struck by a dark-coloured sedan travelling south on the Hume Highway near Holston Street at Casula about 12.50am (AEST) on Thursday, police said.

The car did not stop.

Police, who have not confirmed reports that the youth was naked, are looking for a sedan with front-end damage.

The search follows reports of a disturbance at the youth's nearby family home shortly before the incident.

Green Valley police Chief Inspector Roger McIntyre said the vehicle involved could have been a "dark-coloured sports type vehicle similar to a Holden or Commodore, possibly an early 2000 model".

"The vehicle involved will have damage to the front of the vehicle, possibly on the driver's side," Inspector McIntyre told Macquarie Radio.

Crash Investigation Unit officers attended the scene.

Police said they hoped to talk to several witnesses.

"In cases such as this one, we need as many witnesses as possible to contact us," Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit Commander Senior Sergeant Peter Jenkins said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

what makes this even worse, to the point where i was close to tears is that him and his 15 yo girlfriend have a 8 month yo baby. apparently he was a really good father despite his age and was very mature as well. this must be so horrible for her with the baby.
