So I am sure maybe one of you saw the ABC's Nightline program about this. If you don't know what it is go to Youtube and search "salvia".
Basically it is a legal drug that produces INTENSE hallucinations. NO THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED! Do not even attempt this because it is illegal for 18 year olds and younger.:)
So basically, that ABC program opened my eyes to this drug. I saw it and I searched it on youtube and I was speechless. Yes it was kind of funny but I was genuinely concerned. I then thought "I cant believe Youtube is allowing this!" After a really long time I sent an "e-mail" (I hope it was an email) to Youtube stating:
This is about the Salvia videos that are increasing in popularity on this site. I think Youtube as a whole really needs to reevalutate their policy on this topic. Basically, I think that videos that shows the person with the 'bong' actually taking the drug on the video should be filtered to only users that are above 18. I feel that these videos is promoting drug usage to minors which is illegal in most or all US states. Once again, I think that this really needs to be reevaluated on behalf of your staff. So I have flagged some videos that I feel are inappropriate so you can get some examples of what I feel is inappropriate.
So to conclude, I highly suggest that Youtube and it's staff reevaluate its policy for videos that are subject to the use or reference of Salvia. I believe that all videos that show a person actually in the course of taking this drug should be restricted to users over the age of 18 years old like some other videos that are filtered also. I will be eagerly awaiting a reply within the next few days and if I do not receive one then I will simply e-mail you guys again. Thank you very much for your continued hard work!
So has anyone actually tried this??
What are your opinions on this whole thing?
Also, I have not gotten a reply from youtube. I am very tempted to go to my local news network but I don't want to because that will give this crap even more attention.
I have been flagging so many videos and I have seen no action taken. I think I will stop the flagging soon though :P

If people want to do drugs they'll do them. Nothing in history has proven otherwise.

I am just saying that giving the ability for underagers to view a video of someone on it and then have them go "OMG I SHOULD TRY THAT". Its like publicising it. That is why I simply want them to make all of those videos unable to be viewed. It is not going to work hugely but it is one step in teh right direction. This is going to be illegal soon anyways. I give it 2 years tops

Like it matters. Teens know how to work around age limits on sites like that. If they want to view it they will. If viewing it makes them want to try it they will. You can't stop people from being stupid.

So you do not think that publicity (media) of this will slow if Youtube filtered this content to 18+ viewers. I am sure no station in the country would show that crap.
I am trying to change the frickin world. I am just asking for one country to change it's policies because it is that crap that anyone can view which results in people wanting it more. If people see people doing this, showing them how to take it, and the results of this then people are goiing to do it. I view this as encouragement basically.
If you agree that Youtube should not let this be viewed by accounts registered under 18 then please flag all videos that show the druggies in the process of them taking the drugs.

your wasting your time trying to make a difference, drugs like salvia dont hurt people like you may think. Ive argued this far too many times with people who dont know anything about narcotics so ill just leave it at that.

Hmm, then so are you saying there are no negative effects to use of this drug?
EDIT:
Okay this thread has really strayed from what I wanted it to be about. Basically, I wanted to know if you guys would help support me in my venture to filter this to 18+ only. Also, if you think it not be filtered post it and I promise I won't jump on you:P

Researchers haven't exactly proven health problems due to salvia.
Although, some people blame suicidal acts on the drug.
Also some researchers say that there are psychiatric dangers like seeing visions, hearing voices and such.
So technically, there are negative effects.
It's legal in every state but Missouri and Louisiana.
edit: I don't really think that filtering it will make any difference. Teens know how to access the vids and they know what a bong is, theres not really much point.
I've tried the drug, I've gotta say it was a good experience and it isn't physically addictive.. I don't see the problem.
My opinion.

If you want to change the world concentrate on poor nations and the homeless, not American kids that are bored and do stupid things.

I do NOT remember ever saying I wanted to change the world. If you can quote me once saying that I will bow down to you and call you my king.
Yeah, didn't think so. So now it is you who is making the fallacious comments.

Um sorry Neptune but I am trying to change the frickin world. there it is so get to bowing.

Hmm well you will get one bow because I made a mistake but I did not mean that. I must have forgot the "not". Sry. But I meant a "not" to be there, you can kind of tell by the tone. But here is your bow but still I am not trying to change the world. And we are always going to have hunger and war and poverty. that is a fact of life. I simply do not think that youtube should allow all accoutns registered under the age of 18 to view those videos.

I agree with you on that but I don't think youtube would put an age restriction on those videos since the drug isn't illegal yet.

Well my reasoning behind why they would is because they are letting people under 18 view it but it is illegal for people under 18 to buy it. You know what I mean?

So people under 18 or 21 shouldn't be allowed to view alcohol or tobacco then, correct? I fail to see how that works.

I've smoked two full bowls of salvia once and felt nothing, and also had 2.5g of shrooms and came close to killing myself, granted the savia wasn't extract, and it was homegrown, but thats not the point. Like 0= said, if somebody wants to do drugs they'll do them, and honestly as long as those people aren't hurting other people i don't think the government should intervene.
+rep 0= for good arguments
*edit*
to whatever mod/admin sees the report i made on o= post, i meant to give him rep, and wasn't paying attention to what i clicked on so disregard it.

yeah your prolly right, and for the she shrooms, the main reason i think i had a bad trip was because that time i tried some weird thing where you grind them up then soak them in lemon juice.

Salvia is not illegal in "some or all" US States. It's illegal in FOUR. TN, TX, AR, MI.
It's a form of mint plant, it is NOT DANGEROUS AT ALL. Not a single effect persists more than a half hour after dosage. No negative psychological effects, no physical effects such as hang over, no effects after half an hour. And during the usage, it's hard to have a BAD trip.
Anyway, I agree with the above who say that drug use can't be stopped but shouldnt be encouraged in minors. Don't be a prick.
