Or anything like that that really has no basis for comments and it is a stupid stereotype. This is even worse though, because it is used for ALL bad things, because i suppose in the US being gay is viewed as being bad. Anything gay is bad.

To be honest it doesn't really bother me. People aren't meaning to be offensive when they say it, its just a phrase. If I got offended everytime I heard someone say it, I would be in a pretty bad state by now.

Im not as offended about that phrase as I am about the word "Indian" in the context of when someone says it to a Native American. Because first off Indians are from India and secondly its the term the Brits used when they beat the living hell out of my ancestors.

I think the context that the word "Gay" is used in (when obviously not being used to describe homosexuality) condones a form of homophobia.

Instead of saying "Thats fucked up" or "thats disgusting" etc, people replace these words with the word "gay" - therefore dragging that word down to the lowest level of vocabulary. The word "gay" shouldn't be offensive, and if its used offensively, it is a form of homophobia and disrespectful in my opinion, to the gay community.

It's a form of stereotype - the guy who said most people grew up not knowing the true meaning of the word "gay" (Sorry I forgot the name already !!) proved my point even further; instead of being a synonym for homsexuality, its now a word used in place of an offensive word, often intended offensively.

I take offence to it and I'm maybe 60/40 in favour of girls.

Unfortuantly i think this is common saying in modern society now. It's all down to people being or in my opinion thinking that they have to be homophobic in society, therfore insulting someone by calling them "Your gay" or "that's gay" is sadly a normal thing and i don't think we can escape it. Personally i think it's stupid all this homophobe and racism stuff, but i don't find it offensive as it is normally said in a half hearted way of insulting someone with no real intent. I still punch someone if they say it to me though.

i am gay and I am not super offended when i hear people say it. However, i think it is a rather stupid phrase and i think when you say it it makes you look like a total dumbass, its almost like the people who say it all the time are trying to make shure people know how disguesting they think it is to be gay. I just dont think it makes much sence to use the word in that context since there is nothing wrong with being gay, and come on it tecnically means happy so you are essantially saying thats happy haha. so in short i dont like it but i am not offended by it. I personally find the term fag to be more offencive by far.

It depends on your self esteem level. Most people get really offended by the word "faggot". Same as people get offended by the phrase, "That's So Gay". I have always thought when people said it, they were never trying to put down the gay community but just as a way to say something isn't right or something bad or awful. But in some regards I guess it can come into ways of homophobia being that gay people are bad or gay people aren't right. Either way, to me, I don't get pulled over by words. You can say all you want to me but your hand isn't the one that feeds me so I try to ignore.
