How do you handle competition with friends when it comes to dating girls? As in you and your friend like the same person. This has happened once before, and it was very upsetting when my friend started to date her.

On another note, how does one edge out the competition in general? My friend is much cooler and better looking than I am, and is much more personable. I don't really know how I would have a chance because I am shy and overweight, and he is the opposite.

get to the girl first and talk to the other boy and tell him how you feel etc .....

try your best to win over the girl you like. also to handle it try to talk it out first because chances are if he is as good as you describe him he could probably get another girl, not that you couldnt.

Personally that has never been a problem with me as I already had a girlfriend when my mates started to decided they wanted one.
However, I wouldn't advise doing what Kerry says as that leaves the possibility of an arguement accouring between you and your friend. What I would advise however is to be yourself in front of girls. Act as if you were meeting a new male friend, e.g questions such as "What's your interests" etc. Find out something you are both interested in and hit it off from there. This way you will be fine with your mate as he was with you and you will get the girl, hopefully, farefully.
