I've never read the Earth's children series, but I've read most of the others. The Cry of the Icemark, I must say, I did not enjoy at all. There was a good story behind it, but the writing style was horrible. Everything was over-emphasized and made waaaaay too much a deal out of. It sounded very forced in places. I didn't listen to it after the first chapter, except snippets here and there because my mom was reading it out loud.

I personally disagree, but keep reading!

I think Jose Saramago's Blindness is the best novel written, and even I'm wrong; sadly.
But in order my favorite books are:

Blindness by Jose Saramago
The Gospel According to Jesus Christ by Jose Saramago
Songs of Earth and Power by Greg Bear
Blood Music by Greg Bear
Schismatrix Plus by Bruce Sterling
The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman
Shogun by James Clavell

Harry Potter is great, indeed. I also like Holy Fire by Bruce Sterling, Invisible Monsters, Choke, and Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.

I love books....I could go on all day.

I love the Artemis Fowl books. But I also love the series by Kenneth Oppel, The first book is Silverwing, So I guess it would be the silverwing series o.O :P? The format is pretty big but I love the storyline so far and am planning on reading all four of the books.

I've barely read any of the books listed so far, but I'm more into different types of books... I like anything by Harry Turtledove [aka Dan Chernenko and several other "aliases"] and John Mannock. My favorite book of all time is Sen-Toku Raid by John Mannock. I've been trying to read his book The War Mountains but I haven't had much time. I also enjoy Lee Child's Jack Reacher series. I highly recommend anyone into historical fiction, action, and war books check into Lee Child, Harry Turtledove and John Mannock. Some books I'd highly recommend are Sen-Toku Raid, The Iron Coffin, The End of the Beginning, The Disunited States of America [not really action or historical fiction related, but still a good book nonetheless], and seriously any book in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child... especially One Shot, which is supposedly being turned into a movie...
