Mr. Smithers

My birth name is Kathryn but my friends, hell everyone calls me Katie. I'm sorta the outcast at my school. While all the other girls are listening to Britney Spears and reading Seventeen magazine. I collect bottlecaps, and wear all black clothes. People call me the goth girl at school, but I'm not goth. I'm far from it. I have never kissed a boy. I love boys. I'm a girl. I always write about being with a boy and how I would love to get a rope and just pull him so he can be with me whenever I want him to be. But that is just a fantasy.
You see my best friend Charlotte is the gossip queen. She is always spreading rumors, she is always talking about someone behind their back. But this time, she had said something that I actually cared about. She always gossips about which boys are hot, and which boys are not. But she mentioned one boy, one boy that stepped up through all the others. His name was David and he is a Senior in High School. He just turned 17 a few weeks ago. She said he was a surfer. He trains almost everyday training to be the best surfer on this side of the planet. But this is nothing out of the ordinary. She is always talking about boys that play football or guys that skateboard. For some reason, I just had to meet this guy. I just had that feeling. Everyone gets it.
She gave me his number and his myspace. I didn't ask how she got it even though I wanted to. When I got home I fed my cat, and then I turned on my cell phone. I then dialed his number, waiting for him to pick up.
"Hello...", I didn't know what to say. For the first time, I was actually having a phone conversation with a guy. I decided to say something.
"Oh hey...this is David right?"
"Last time I checked, I was that very person." I didn't know what to say. I wanted to laugh or something.
"Look..David, truth is, I have never spoken to a boy on the phone before. I haven't even kissed a boy before."
"You are lying to me right?" He replied.
"No, I am serious. I'm 16 and I have never been with a boy."
"I find it funny. I am always hearing that some girl is with some guy. Describe yourself."
I knew he was going to ask that question. Should I lie or tell the truth.
"Well...I'm 5'7...I weigh 120 pounds, I like collecting Stuffed animals and bottle caps. I have black hair and black eyes. Thats all I am going to describe."
"Would you like to go to Starbucks on Saturday and we can just talk. I mean, I am the first boy you ever talked to right?" I could tell he was doing an audible laugh.
"I guess so." I didn't know what to say but yes.
The school week went on until Friday went I messaged his myspace to find out if he still wanted to go. He never answered.
So about 4 hours later. I called his number he didn't pick up. Saturday came. I called his number all day. He never called me.
On Sunday, my Mom told me to come downstairs, she wanted to tell me something. She had told me that David's Mom called our house. She said she got our number by going through his cell phone history. She told my Mom that he got in a car accident on Friday. He didn't make it.
At first I didn't cry, but later on in the day, I started to sob a little. I didn't even know him. He was going to be my first boyfriend. I felt so upset. I decided not to go to school on Monday. The next day, I went back to school. I eventually got over it. That made me change my opinions on life. I mean, he was such a nice boy.
