Im just wondering, but how does someone get promoted to global mod, is it when you have been a mod of a forum and then do a good job and get choosen by admin, or do the canidates have to apply to become global mods

from my experience, (me seeing Ant and Val be premoted), they have both been chosen as moderators and done such a fine job that they were premoted.
Usually there aren't regular members who are immediately premoted to global mod because they haven't had experience being regular moderators on this site. So you usually don't see applications for gmods

For the most part a global moderator is chosen when one resigns, it is decided that extra hep is needed, or a moderator has been doing a good job and they get a promotion.

Usually a global moderator has had prior moderator experience but that always hasn't been the case. Alex (redcar), a current admin, was picked to be a global moderator without prior moderating experience.

This isn't something that is applied for. Current administrators and global moderators select a candidate and the person is asked privately and is promoted if they accept.
