What is going on with some of these new members. I like to check the profile's of members who posted so I can create a more personal response in my posts, but when I see the visitor messages like "Hey are you curious," or "Hope your curious like me," or even asking for others myspace I wonder is this site becoming a dating site? This site was created for teens to come and get help with their problems and issues, not to meet strangers online and fulfill some weird fantasy. What do you guys think about this?

Well comments/posts like that are allowed however if there here for that reason alone then they are not really welcome here

however the reason there is the profile comments is because of the new version of the forum. If you get comments like that and you don't want them, ignore them or delete them.

I don't have messages like that but when I see them they piss me off because to me they are hurting the appeal of this site and making it look like we're here just to hook up with young boys

That's interesting, though I haven't noticed it much... I mean, I think Kiros's intent was to put a more personal touch on VT, so members could get to know each other and becoming "friends" would be easier, but of course I don't think he intended for people to be looking for relationships through VT. You can always ignore a newer member if they say something in a visitor message that you think isn't "appropriate" for this site, but isn't even infraction worthy. You can also PM them explaining that the point of VT is not to find a "date" and that they should seriously stop, as certain members may view it as harassment if someone keeps pestering them over something like a date or relationship through VT.

hmmm yeah I see your point, but you can't really say that there trying to hook up, yes theres a chance but they may just be wondering if that person is curious.

But I agree with you, more rules might need to be created for this new feature.

I just read some of those, and to tell you the truth, I've seen people get banned for less than what they've done.

The Batman

You're right Patchy we can't say they're just trying to hook up when they just send 1 or 2 messages, but when it's like 5+ by the same member then it's starting to show a trend and there is one particular member who is sending most of these messages(don't ask who it is because I don't want to embarrass him).

Yeah, certainly I will start looking out for who is constantly doing it

I know who is constantly doing it, and if you would like, I can PM you his/her name.

It's fine the people doing it are not breaking any rules, it will be the admins decision

Here is the rule Do not ask for the personal information or pictures of other members. If a member asks for any personal information or pictures through private messaging on this website, that member may have their private messaging privileges restricted or completely disabled.

And here is a message I have seen r u goin to send it already sent it k o ok..ill send it now..i jsut saw u had went off line lol

And not to mention
i was reading one of ur posts and it says ur an eight incher
is that true?? =]

if posts like that keep on happening I reckon we will have to be tougher with comments like that.

obviously its not my position to say though, the admins will be interested in this no doubt.

Moving to VirtualTeen HQ.

Safety is something that is going to be the number one priority. When we started seeing dodgy messages like that we took action and put visitor messages under moderation, which means they have to go through moderator approval before they are made public.

This site isn't becoming a dating site and never will be. There have always been members who don't want to use this website for its full intended purpose of help and see it has a hook up place and those members are dealt with appropriately.

We have as much distaste for this kind of behavior as you do and that is why we have staff - to keep this site safe and enjoyable for everyone.

If you feel that there is a comment that really shouldn't be there, just report it and it will be looked into.

The reason we have the restrictions on visitor messages is to try and prevent such comments. However if they keep persisting then there is two courses of action, increase the restrictions or simply not allow visitor comments. I would have no problem with stopping visitor comments if the system is being abused.

Also, the owners of the profile can delete messages. If you see a message that you do not like on your profile delete it.

Yeah, I have seen some messages like that. They do not break any rules. That rule that you listed above is not in relation to status. When they say personal information I think they mean name, address, etc. So once again it is not in violation of rules and I really can't do anything about it. I have to approve it if it doesn't break rules soo...yea I do understand and agree what you are talking about but the only way to fix it is to modify the rules.

I must say that I've never gotten any messages at all about it.

It seems to be an issue. I mean they could be some pervs looking for teens

i can't, its probably because of the restrictions

The restrictions are good you guys... A lot of members would fool around with the ability to edit and delete other people's visitor messages... They may delete a message just for the hell of it, and that should not be tolerated... They may also edit a message so that it says something completely to the contrary of what the original person said... Some members just can't be trusted... I admit, I used to tempted when I had moderating abilities in my diary, I always wanted to just delete someone's post for the heck of it or edit someone's post for fun... Things like that can be tempting. We should just deal with the restrictions. VT was fine before, and it's not like these restrictions are THAT big a deal. You can still leave visitor messages and you can still report any inappropriate visitor messages to a mod/admin. It's no big deal.

Actually I think you should be able to delete the messages just for the heck of it.

I think so too, just 'cause it's your profile. Someone has a problem if you deleted their message they don't need to go to your profile. Heh.

I was gonna delete my messages and then realized I couldn't.

:-P

Ok members can now delete their visitor messages. Diary owners can delete posts within their diary so similar permissions should be allowed within Profiles.

Thank you Alex, you're awesome.

This is a little off topic, but it has to do with the profile, so I wanted to post this here.

Under the User Control Panel and under networking there is a button for contacts and friends, in there it gives you an option to show your friends avatars or not, every time I un-click it and save it comes back clicked. Is that just not activated?

Sorry, I was just wondering.
