This is intended to spark debate, but feel free to add any "What if" questions you have, but lets stay on the topic I start off with at least...
What if the U.S. was nuked?
What if the world was plunged into nuclear war?
What if EVERYONE was killed?
What if we were forced to restart civilization, the few remaining survivors forced to restart, with limited technology and surrounded by nuclear dead zones?
What if the Earth was destroyed due to intense nuclear warfare?

What if the U.S. was nuked?
If the U.S. was prepared, they would probably retaliate... Depending on where the nuke hit, there would probably be casualties on a scale we've never even thought of...
What if the world was plunged into nuclear war?
Quite possibly every country could end up destroying every other country.. But that's probably the happy ending... If not, one country will certainly emerge victorious, while other countries could slowly be utterly decimated and face extreme casualties... It would basically be like one supreme super power with modern/futuristic technology, and a bunch of other countries with classic /no technology and little means of survival... kind of like combining cavemen and today's society...
What if EVERYONE was killed?
Well.. there's probably life on other planets anyways, and quite possibly, humans could reappear if the Earth wasn't completely obliterated... But that would take millions of years... It also depends how far we were set back [i.e. how many species were killed off]
What if we were forced to restart civilization, the few remaining survivors forced to restart, with limited technology and surrounded by nuclear dead zones? Who knows... We would probably fail because we're not used to being so independent and we're not used to working so hard... Maybe if a really good leader emerged, we could be somewhat successful, but we would most likely just die out..Unable to survive without the technology we had grown so accustomed to...

Well... We can presume there is life on other planets, so all is not lost... But Earth will probably end up being inhospitable, and if it is completely annihilated, well... Yeah, we can say for certain humans won't be returning to Earth... ever.
