I thought I was 250 pounds, but I went to the doctor's and I found out I was 300 pounds. I'm only 16, but I'm 6'6. I still need to lose about 80 pounds to be considered healthy but I can't stop eating so much food everyday. I've tried to cut down my food consumption for a week, but the I just started eating a lot subconsciously, I don't know what to do.

all I can tell you is the obvious...cut down your food and exercise....like that show the biggest loser..they didnt diet or anything and in ONE week they exercised and just ate less and healthier and some lost almost 30 lbs...it was nuts...but realistically if you feel like you always want something in your mouth try gum or get some celery or something

It's really hard to eat healthy though. One of the main issues is the money. It's cheaper to buy unhealthier food. Also, my dad rarely buys good healthy food, so I always have the food variety of unhealthy foods. Also, with my weight, it's harder to stay commited to excercise because I'm so big I tire out easily. A main reason is my smoking, it tires me out 5 times faster than if I never did smoke.

I'm gonna tell you the same thing I told teencrazykid

healthy food doesn't have to be that high priced organic crap. Carrots...celery...fruit....salads...CHEAP! even those frozen meals are less than 1$ a peice and that limits your portion and is most always low in calories..I guarantee you're parents spend more on 1 bag of cookies then they would on several meals for you for a healthy start.)

..you needa stop smoking...I know you've probably heard that before..but seriously..you're killing yourself.

I know you get tired easily...trust me I know what its like...at one point I was very heavy...it took me so long and as of now I've only lost 40lbs...and 30 of it I lost after I met my bf (last 7 months) but you need to just exercise..if its only 2..3..4...5 minutes before you get tired..then you go until you get tired..and then..one day it'll be 2 minutes you're working out..and the next itll be 3..before you know it you'll be able to go a straight 10..20....30 minutes.

and I'll tell you like people told me..stay off the scale...and dont set like..a goal weight for yourself set a goal size...cus as you work out you'll gain muscle and it weighs more than fat..so you may be 3 sizes smaller but weigh the same thing!

I know it's hard, but you can do it!

Two things. First off, I can't eat many vegetables. The only vegetables I can eat are potatoes, corn, and peas. Anything else I can't eat. Whenever I try to, I gag it back up when I try to swallow it.

Second, I'm not trying to gain muscle, I'd rather be slim and toned than muscular. If I started gaining muscle from my point, I'd be at least 350 if all my fat was turned into muscle.

Elokyn

>.< okay...I didn't say you were gonna like body build or anything.....but when you exercise you gain muscle....it doesnt mean your gonna be muscular...but if you're not in shape now exercising is GONNA make you gain muscle...if you have none you're gonna be all flabby anyway.

without vegetables there's still fruit there's still the meals I mentioned...you just have to actually only eat ONE and not go and get 3 or 4 or add things to them.

I got the vitamin thing covered now, because my dad just told me he's getting me multi-vitamin pills because he told me I was going to have problems later from never eating vegetables.

What do you eat daily for like Breakfast, lunch, dinner, inbetween.
Maybe you can substitue some of those foods for others

Zelphyre
September 20th, 2005, 06:50 PM
I usually have cereal for breakfast, a sandwich and an apple/chips for lunch, dinner is whatever my dad makes and i usually have a snack like a bowl of chips and a sandwich after school and an hr or so before I go to bed.

Gee
September 20th, 2005, 06:53 PM
Try not to eat before you go to bed
and maybe don't eat the chips
If you get hungry from time to time eat a Fruit

Zelphyre
September 20th, 2005, 06:55 PM
But fruits are not fulfilling unless I eat like 6 apples instead of a sandwich > <

Well uhmm.. Try to cut down on Calories and Carb's

My brother was a bit over weight and he cut those down and EXERCISED.

Don't eat eggs and stuff with carbs or calories (alot of them I mean)

When you eat a sandwich, use wheat bread instead, if you use mayo, try not to or if you can't use less mayo.

You try and say eat less and excercise when you are as big as me man. It's a lot harder to eat less when you weigh more. Smaller people always say eat less or excercise, but you don't know how hard it is.

dude, you wanted advice....noone said it was easy...but don't dare tell people they don't know what it's like when you don't have a clue what anyone has been through.

True, noone will ever know exactly how you feel inside but I mean..what'd you expect us to say? Eat more and sit on your butt? Sorry, that won't produce results. You wanna lose weight you're gonna have to eat less and exercise..bottom line.

I know how you feel. I have to eat a bag of crisps at lunch because all the sandwiches at the 711 are meat. It sometimes doesnt seem like products don't want you to eat healthy. Maybe try packing an apple for your lunch every day, and just work on it, and work on it. sooner then you know you'll be healthy!

Second day into eating healthy and I don't feel so lazy anymore. I replaced all those chips, candy, etc with apples and bananas. No more snacks inbetween breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Already I feel some energy coming back into me and I don't feel like sitting around anymore. Hopefully this starts to work out because my stomach is retaliating against me from eating nowhere near as much as I usually did.

Ohh yeah, Cholesterol
Don't eat foods with high Cholesterol

Alot of cereal can be bad for you too.
Most of them have high sugar even the some that say it doesn't.

Get into a routine of doing like 10 sit-ups a day
then like every 2 days do like 3 more.
Push-up's are good too, if you can do those do them like 5 a day and go higher and higher.

Just don't force yourself to hard, you might end uo hurting yourself

Zelphyre

I can't even do situps because I have a bad back and I'm going to the doctor for it. Can't do pushups either because my arms are too weak.

Then just grab a discmen and go for a walk
dont pay attention to how far you've gone or anything just recoil within yourself and think, let your eyes glaze over and just....walk

I can go a good 6miles without even thinking
But if i pay attention to how far i've gone within 5 blocks i start to feel it in my legs

So NO paying attention!
Just...walk
Grab a discmen
and
walk

Just wondering how things are going for you Zelphyre? I hope theyre still going well :D

I agree with alot of the things Nykole (Elokyn) has said :D

When ppl tell you to eat healthily and excercise, they dont mean for you to all of a sudden cut out carbs, only eat fruit and vegetables and do an hour of exercise a day...everything is gradual, and everything is within reason...

What you're talking about is a lifestyle change. You need to change the way you look at food, and you're approach to meals and you also need to introduce exercise. (the smoking goes unmentioned because i have a feeling you know what you should do about that...i dont think you should have to be told...but its also something you have to decide for yourself)

I also just wanna say...i had this teacher when i was younger and she would always say, that when it comes to eating healthy, theres no such thing as 'cant'
First off, I can't eat many vegetables. The only vegetables I can eat are potatoes, corn, and peas. Anything else I can't eat. Whenever I try to, I gag it back up when I try to swallow it.

You could eat them if you chose to, but for whatever reason, you have decided you dont want to...whether or not you say you gag it up...its in your mind, you have decided you dont like them or they dont taste nice, so you dont eat them.
Which of course, you are entitled to do so...afterall it is your body :D ...
However, it is possible that you may want to change your mind...and if so, then it might be an idea, if you have it set so deeply in your mind that you 'cant' eat them, to go and visit your doctor and they will be able to refer you to a dietician or a nutritionist :D ...or someone like that...

It might also be an idea to think about what food does for you. Do you eat for comfort? or maybe because its something you have control over? Do you feel the need to eat everything on your plate because it would mean you were being ungrateful? Alot of things happen when we're younger that can effect how we see food now, so it might be an idea to think about it. You could maybe talk to your doctor or your dad about it aswell? There are also helplines that might help. By changing the way you look at food and what it does for you, can change what you eat and why you eat it.

Anyway, its good to see that you have breakfast though :D alot of ppl try and skip breakfast but breakfast kicks start your metabolism for the day and helps when ppl are trying to lose weight...

And from what you're saying your dad does the shopping?
Im not sure if you have already done so, but maybe you could try talking to him about this. Afterall, your health is at serious risk being overweight.
Maybe you could go shopping with him and pick out some foods that are slightly healthier than what you would normally have? A piece of advice however...try not to go shopping on an empty stomach...because then you end up shopping for your appetite at that moment in time, and not for the foods you are trying to eat ;)

Ok next, the exercise part :D do you do any exercise at the moment? and by exercise, i mean something regular, like walking everyday to school or playing a sport or...?
If not, then start....and i dont mean start trying to jog around the streets for 2 hours everynight...
You should try what Cody said because its so true!

Just...walk
Grab a discmen
and
walk

...its surprising the benefits of something as simple as that can be :D and you can build it up gradually as Nykole said

but you need to just exercise..if its only 2..3..4...5 minutes before you get tired..then you go until you get tired..and then..one day it'll be 2 minutes you're working out..and the next itll be 3..before you know it you'll be able to go a straight 10..20....30 minutes.

You can build up the speed and the distance as you get more used to it :D

I know you said about having a bad back and that you arent able to do push ups....have you tried the half version push ups? instead of lifting your whole body you stay on you knees...heres a pic of what i mean:
http://www.das.state.ct.us/exam/Trooper/DSCN0309.JPG

I hope thats clear enough :? . Anyway, if not, you could always lift some weights to help build strength in your arms (and i dont mean proper weights, unless of course you have them :P lol ...but you can substitute things like bottles of water :D ) you could also do squats, lunges, just things like that...and you dont even have to do alot...just do what you feel able to.

The only thing is that doing it on your own (in your room or somewhere) requires more self-motivation then being with other ppl who could support you or encourage you to keep going...thats why, if possible, it might be an idea to try and start something you enjoy...it doesnt have to be strenous or energy consuming...i dont know what sports clubs or whatever you have where you live but its something you could look into right? :D

As i said before though, youre changing your lifestyle....if you start something that you find difficult to keep up with now, then its likely youll be unable to keep it going for long right?
However, you have already come far by admitting that there is a problem and by starting to do something about it. Just take one step at a time :D ...literally...when youre walking...but remember as Cody said "NO paying attention!" :P hehe

I would love to know how things are going for you :D
Goodluck!

xxx

Edit:  Omg, im sorry i didnt realise i had written so much. Sorry!

Why don't you try having sunflower or pumpkin seeds in the house to snack on? Fruit?

Or even try a diet such as Weight Watchers...everyone loses weight on their points system.

And if you wanna lose fat but not gain muscle do about fifty minutes of CV work out...that's what I do 'cause my muscles bulk quite easily if I do weight lifting and whatnot.

Maybe some sort of aerobic video could help you? And I know you smoke and you said you'd get tired out 'cause of your size but my Mum smokes and she still manages an hour at the gym three times a week and after and month or so your stamina levels will starts to rise and you won't find things so tough.

You have to stay positive I suppose and try new things...try healthier foods, and simply have an open mind to things...maybe you could ask your doctor or nutritionalist (however the heck you spell it) what road you're best to take.

*shrugs* My two pence.

<3 tasha.

after you lose a good amount of weight (maybe 15-40 pounds) get involved with sports or something a guy 6"6 would be good at football. to help ur body stay fit.

if u get hungry start eating healthy foods with more protein because they will help fill you up more.

after about 2 months or so of walking start to run/jog about a block of you walk. try to walk about a half a mile a day at the very very very least.
good luck

Allright back with some updates I guess. After having a chriopractic appointment, I'm feeling a bit more energy now because I don't have as much back problems anymore. I've lost a good ten pounds in the 2-3 weeks whenever I started commiting myself. It's still hard to stay away from bad foods, so I rarely have that hamburger or whatever. And about the sports thing, I really wish I could do sports but there are no more sports anymore, football is done in about 1 week, and since it's winter there won't be any sports til March. I'll try going to a doctor concercing my weight and I will adress my smoking issue, and see what's the best option to choose. Thanks everyone for being supportive, and I'll try to keep the updates coming. Now my only hard obstacle is going to be Geometry = P

Maybe if you can drive and live in a populated area. I live in a town of 500 people and I can't drive yet, so all those options are knocked out of the park.

you jus ttotally shot urself in the foot there 'i cannot drive and live in a populated area' ok sorry but that is SO logical there.. maybe you should WALK to what you want to do to exersize... oh and let me post what i said to the other guy ..

ThePhantom
October 30th, 2005, 01:38 PM
i posted this earlier today to another guy sorry for the typos.. and please PLEASE stop with the lame excuses? you will ALWAYS be able to be healthier ...

in a nutshell [i was 13, and 230 pounds WAY more then you and am now down to 158]

whole wheat bread: takes longer for ur body to break down and has less calories

oh and btw my mom really cares for me and really supports me in all of this, sure it does cos ta little bit more but the family get what they need then i get a box of what i need and it lasts a month or two .. trust me on this just talk to your mom seriousley bout it ... no joke..

you dont need to run to exersize, at first i did a LOT of swimming, swimming is easy and fun in my opinion...
if you cant jog for a while just walk you will get better

only look at the scale once a week i am a victim to finding out ive lost my 1 pound a week on wednesday and eaten it back by sunday [weigh in]!

I am like ALWAYS subconsiounceley [eh?] thinking abotu what i eat.. well ia lways think about it not relaly subcon. ... try nto to eat out and if you do those fruit salads are REALLY good.. i havent eaten out once if ud ont count fruit salads

if u get a fruit salad just eat that for the ngiht because theres a lot of cals in the yogurt

lowfat yogurt has about 80-100 cals i eat that...

skim milk: everyone burns thru 2 gals of whole while i go about a month to get through a whole thing of skim so it doesnt cost THAT much

kanola oil: this isnt a must but it helps, its better then vegetable oil and costs a little bit more but costs teh same

there are a few good lowcal/fat cookies that ive made if i really want something... other then that... dont forget exersize

oh and lowfat dressing is a must too! and on ur salads have nothing b ut veggies [it sounds gross but trust me] i usually eat my meal before everyone else then when dinner is here i eat a salad with them so id ont feel left out...

DONT EAT PASSED 8 your body will not digest it properly because when you go to sleep it will just turn into sugars in your body and make youf at.... thats part of hte reason why i never eat with my family is because they eat so late

take advantage of PE like i do, if there is a day you really dont want to exersize after school really try hard, while everyone else is mozzying around in PE i do nothing but run/jog/spring around the basketball court all period, i do this 5 times a week out of the reccommended 3 times a week for about 45 minutes whichis a relallllyyy good workout...

ignore EVERYONE that laughs at you

pack your own lunch! school lunches are NOT healthy they are full of grease and .. ugh eww...

The food thing I got a problem with, because even though I would eat more vegetables, I can hardly smell them, let alone actually keep them in my stomach without puking. I did not shoot myself in the foot, if you actually READ it, I said if i lived in a populated area and could drive. I live in a town that has nothing in it, and the closest town with any activity things is 20 miles away. Plus I can't do shit in PE at the moment because I sprained my foot.

ThePhantom
October 31st, 2005, 04:49 PM
k well u have 2 months before ur ready to start exersizing? sorry for not reading that right!

if you cant eat vegetables without puking you have a problem, seriousley, go to a doctor

umm and no offense there is like no smell in vegetables ...

eat lots of celery it has 30 cals a stock and is very healthy and helps your motabolism becauase of all the fiber ^.^
