Why is it that people assume if your gay then your like SUPPOSE to act like a girl and what not? Like your suppose to dress and talk like a girl?

im not quite sure but i think its because people think that gay people hang with girls(which is a stereotype sry) and so people think since they hang with girls they start acting like them. which in a lot of cases is why gay guys exploit a very feminine side.

Gay men come in all forms.
Flamers, Manly, Average Joe, Transexuals... you name it, they're out there.
But yes.
It is mainly due to the media portraying the flamers more often.

I personally think it is because of the people who like to broadcast to the world that they are gay, and I mean the people who nearly make it a point of letting you know they are gay. Very few people do it, but people do it none the less. The whole sticking their sexuality down your throat. These people generally act in this perceived stereotype.
Like that really annoys me. Being gay is nothing special. So why make it a point of telling others?
EDIT: I do realise the irony in what I have said seeing as I have a rainbow in my sig. But that acually serves a different purpose to me.

honestly! theres this gay guy at my friends school, so then i was just watching him a lil and some little girl comes up an says hi to him and hes just smiling and shaking her hand and introduces himself, then a girl who appeared to be the older sis of the little girl came an grabbed her away from him and started walking away really fast, then she said "Ellie! did that boy do anything to you? did he touch you in anyway besides shaking your hand?" i heard cuz i was near her when she said that, but my point is just cuz someones gay, it dosent make them a pedophile! i really wanted to hit that girl for even asking that!

My favorite thing about the sterotypes is how it effects straight people too. It's terrible both ways. I have lots of friends that are girls, like some feminine activities, like sandals, and have colorful clothes. does that make me gay? NO!

I actually find those stereotypes funny because they really do not describe my gay family members at all and I think they only way to get rid of these stereotypes is to stop giving them so much power and not acknowledge them anymore.

Why did you ask that?
Sorry, just wondering...
Anyway, I agree the media does portray a lot of stereotypical images. However, surely people still have the ability not to presume or judge just because they hear the word "gay", and that they realise everyone is different? :eyebrow:
Too often, it would seem not...

Well heres the most ironic thing you will have heard today.
I am extremely gay, the opposite sex dosn't attractive me even slightly but I am of the straight stereotype.
However the most homophobic person I know acts SO camp that it is debatable that he is faking his whole point of view on gays.
This clearly shows that stereotypes are nothing more than generalisations or the loudest voice on a subject.
Fact of the matter is, 10% of the population are gay. Where i live theres 30 students in my class. Ten percent of that equals 3. Now when theres that many it dosn't mean that your blind, it means that those overly flamboughent gays are just a bit more rare. Most gays have empathy for other peoples feelings and don't shove their sexuality in their face. Not to mention the ammount of people in the closet.
