I don't consider it a sport. Sports I see are physical activities that require movement. All a gamer does is press buttons on a controller. Sure the Wii is more interactive but you aren't really doing anything except playing in a virtual reality. Not a sport in my books.

Sport: An active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition
No I don't think gaming is a sport

Like Zach said, how could it possibly be a sport when it usually involves sitting around on a couch with a pop and a bowl of snack mix within arm's reach, pressing buttons. Now think of soccer. what do these have in common? Nothing, really. Gaming is an activity, not a sport.

Unless your playing a Wii it's not a sport.

YES because it involves some movement along with energy and it produces sweat.. Anything you do that makes you sweat is a sport I say!

Actually, studies on the Wii have been done, and it actually barely burns more calories as other consoles. Basically, it's all in the wrist. There isn't much on the Wii you can't do just using your wrist movements. So even the Wii doesn't compare to real sports.

I only agree with this if its the Wii, or something like DDR. They require you to move ALOT
Most people only sweat from video games because they are anxious, or hot :P

With a Wii it depends on the game you play because some games make you move more than others.

You do realize that you never are required to move your feet while playing the Wii?
And of course, I forgot about DDR. That is the only exception to this I can think of, and even it doesn't provide the same level of activity that any sport does.
Never once have I sweated when I played a video game, and for now, I don't ever expect to.
Also, you've got to think about the team aspect of sports. Sure, there are some cooperative games and games where you face each other, but never on the level of real sports.

im a gamer, but i dont think its a sport because its not atheletic in any way haha (except the wii)

To me, gaming is not a sport. It's not really athletic. Except for some Wii games (even then, full body motions aren't required) and DDR, gaming is too sedentary in nature.

Mzor I wasn't saying all Wii games can be classified as sports and you don't have to sweat for something to be considered a sport what about Dart throwing or Billiards or even NASCAR

Gaming is not a sport
It involves little to no movement,
All movement being in the wrist and thumbs.
The only real exception would be DDR because you can work up a good sweat with that game = ) (proud owner!)

Darts? No.
Pool? Maybe...
NASCAR. Yes (but not something I like). They sweat big time. It gets hot driving on hot pavement with your head crammed in a helmet for a lot of laps.
High endurance to handle the grueling conditions of a race. Temperatures inside a race car can reach 120°F, and it's typical for most drivers to sweat out three to four pounds of water during a race.

Walking on a hot summer day is a sport?
No, sports involve more than just hand movement. Running is basiclly what makes it a sport to me, golf being an exception, which is still really boring.
