I was thinking what if we made the diaries and blogs members only areas it could help build new member interest and also help out with forum activity from already registered members who come on as guests. I'm not talking about hiding them just making it so that only members can access them.

I don't get how that would increase activity...

Though I guess it would make it "more appealing to" newer members as after they joined they would discover said areas... But still, new members now have the benefit of knowing about those areas before they join and yet the diaries still don't get an extreme amount of activity [same with the blogs]

I think that's a great idea but I think that the blogs should be members only.

I don't agree, I think guests should be able to view most of the site before they join so they see how developed and nice it is.

The WPR was enough anyways, we already cut off their view of our community center, we shouldn't limit the only other place people act as a community...the diaries...

I'm not saying make it so they can't view them I'm saying that they can see the titles and stuff but they can't see the threads.

If you don't want guests to see your blog, you can edit your settings in the Blog Control Panel
http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/blog_usercp.php

Hiding blogs wouldn't create an interest. I think guests reading blogs can create an interest to where they may want to join and start blogging themselves after seeing examples.

I think hiding diaries is too drastic. That's 30+ forums that can't be seen and a lot of content removed, compared to one forum how it is now. When there's less content on the site, it really reduces the amount of keywords that can be matched in a Google search therefore less people finding the site.

I did not mean hide them which i have mention twice already but just have it so the guests can only see the diary names and descriptions, you know sorta build up a curiosity about whats inside these forbidden areas.

Still, they build up a little curiosity, but guests want substance...I was a guest, so I know. it's bad enough that you can't participate, but if you can't view something, what's the point?

I still think hiding 30+ forums of threads is too drastic. There are a lot of good threads in those diaries that can attract a lot of people through searches. Blocking threads means blocking search engines as well.

It really ticks me off that people are obsessed with responding to posts within 2 minutes.

I was editing my post because I understand now and now my post says something different. Check it out.

But we are hiding TWPr, the most active forum i think.

Excuse me? If you are going to take part in a discussion here you will refrain from using such language. It is not only rude and lacks all manners but showing a total disregard to everyone else.

But we are hiding TWPr, the most active forum i think.

Just because we hide one major forum to increase guest curiosity does not mean it would be a good idea to just start hiding things left and right. There's a difference between making people curious and sending people away.

Also, that fourm really doesn't have substance. It is mostly stupid random questions and games and others. I rarely see something in there that would barely even be searched by an engine. On top of that TWPR is mostly accomplishments too. It is not nearly as substancial as our other forums. Including our diary and blog forums.

I honestly don't think we should be hiding TWPR. We've had it open for four years without a problem and without obsessing about member count, why start now?

About the diaries and blogs... What good would be hiding them, then people would just join to see them but never post. It raises the number, but that's it.

Just my opinion, sorry.

honestly i really think it is better they can explore the site so they find something they want to post a reply in because the only reason i joined was because i wanted my input in a thred!! It also makes them less likly to find something they are interested in on the site in turn they may simply loose intrest.

Like I said, the visitors are not really losing much by not being able to view TWPR. Theres nothing exciting there...except personal pictures.
